Lhůta lies in gently hilly terrain and is mostly surrounded by forests and farmland. Its local history, dating back to the first written mention in 1366, and cycle route 2154 add to its landscape appeal. If you are considering Lhůta as a destination, you can distinguish between nature, history and specific events.

Landscape and natural features

The municipality lies between the Sutice forest area, which includes Spálený vrch, and the Lhůtský potok stream. The landscape around Lhůta also includes the Kozelské polesí forest area and Mount Maršál, which stands 562 m high. Lhůta is also associated with two protected areas: Kornatický potok Nature Park and the Sedlecká rokle Natural Monument (PP). These features range from forests and streams to a mountain and protected areas. If landscape is your main consideration when choosing a destination, you will find several named points of interest here rather than just one main attraction.

Local history and architecture

The municipality was first mentioned in writing in 1366, when it was called Lhota. Its official name was changed to “Lhůta” in 1924. This distinguishes two stages in the history of its name: the early written form and the later official name. The name Lhůta comes from the historical terms lhóta and lehota. They referred to a period during which residents of newly founded settlements were exempt from certain obligations to the authorities. The place name thus connects its present form with an older meaning and a historical provision for newly founded settlements.

Another feature of the local architectural history is Kovárna Hvížďalka. It is one of the few surviving examples of a farriers’ forge with a representative residence. The example combines a craft function with a building described as representative. For those interested in cultural history, this offers a different focus alongside the history of the name: the architecture of a farriers’ forge.

Cycle route and recurring event

Cycle route 2154 runs from Lhůta to Mirošov and is 16 km long. Surface conditions may change, so check the route conditions before setting out if this is important for your plans.

Since 2001, Lhůta’s volunteer firefighters have organized the Tříkrálový vejšlap to Mount Maršál. The date varies from year to year. If you are considering the event as a reason for your trip, check the dates for your chosen year. The two activities raise different planning considerations: for the cycle route, its length and changing surface conditions are relevant; for the vejšlap, it is the event date.

Events at Hostinec Pod Maršálem

Hostinec Pod Maršálem regularly hosts social and entertainment events. Beer, other drinks and refreshments are available there. If you would like to plan a visit around a specific event, check the event dates and opening details in advance.
