Kdyne combines borderland history and cultural heritage with marked hiking trails and a water recreation centre. The attractions offer different experiences: the museum covers the region’s development, the synagogue and church preserve tangible historical evidence, while the trails and swimming pools offer other ways to enjoy your stay.

Borderland history at the Muzeum Příhraničí

The Muzeum Příhraničí presents the history of the border region from prehistoric times to the present day. Its exhibitions focus mainly on the history of the region, the textile industry, agriculture and Czech-Bavarian coexistence in the borderland. The museum’s perspective therefore spans a long historical period as well as specific topics that have shaped the region.

The museum is housed in a reconstructed building that once belonged to a spinning mill. The building’s former use provides a direct link to the textile industry, while the exhibitions also cover agriculture and life in the border region. If you are interested in the region’s development, you can learn about both its historical scope and several distinct subject areas here.

Kdyně Synagogue and its preserved furnishings

The Kdyně Synagogue was built in 1862–1863 in the Neo-Romanesque style, which revives Romanesque architectural forms. Its preserved original features are particularly striking: these include the interior, painted decoration, benches, women’s gallery and the ritual bath known as a mikveh. The historic impression comes not only from the building’s exterior but also from various elements of its original furnishings.

Visits are arranged by prior appointment through the Kdyně Tourist Information Centre. Contact the centre in advance to arrange your visit and check available times before adding the synagogue to your plans.

St. Nicholas Church and its organ

St. Nicholas Church was founded in the second half of the 14th century. Its valuable organ dates from 1763 and has been preserved entirely in its original condition. These two details mark distinct historical points: the church’s medieval foundation and a precisely dated instrument from the 18th century.

Hiking trails and views

Marked hiking trails lead to sights and places of interest in Kdyne and the surrounding area. They also offer views of the Pošumaví and Český les landscapes. When planning an excursion, you can take in both local destinations and the surrounding scenery. Check the trail signs and conditions before setting out.

Swimming and water attractions

The Centrum vodní zábavy Kdyně has a 425 m² main pool. It is divided into a 25-metre swimming pool with three lanes and a separate area with water attractions. The layout offers two distinct options within the main pool: lane swimming and water attractions. If you are planning a visit, check the centre’s latest information in advance.
