Chrastavice offers several points of interest in its cultural history: the historic village center, the Neo-Romanesque Chapel of the Holy Trinity, the burial mound field, and the cross stone. These features are located at different points in the village and its surroundings: the chapel dominates the village square, the burial mound field is divided into groups near forest paths, and the cross stone stands in the center. Visitors planning a stay can therefore explore the village's history in stages—from the character of the square to the archaeological site and the directions at the burial mound field.

Village Square and Historic Village Center

The historic village center of Chrastavice lies around the village square. A water basin, the Neo-Romanesque Chapel of the Holy Trinity, and preserved farmsteads dating from the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries form an urban ensemble of significance. The chapel defines the public space of the square and is significant both religiously and architecturally. The village center can therefore be viewed as a historic ensemble: to understand Chrastavice's architectural history, it is not only the chapel that matters, but also its relationship to the square and the farmsteads.

Burial Mound Field and Cross Stone

The burial mound field in Chrastavice is divided into three groups near forest paths and is registered as an immovable cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 18793/4-4033. A location marker and an information board are situated on the road to Milavče. At the junction by the burial mound field, the blue-marked hiking trail turns south toward Chrastavice and east toward Milavče. This connects the village's archaeological history with specific directions.

The cross stone, also known as a reconciliation cross, marks a different kind of location: it stands on a grass-covered embankment in the center of Chrastavice and is visible from the main road between Domažlice and Milavče. While the burial mound field is divided into several groups near forest paths, the cross stone is part of the village center. Their different locations help distinguish these two features of the village's history.

A Historical Detail from the Chapel

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity had an original clock mechanism installed in 1897. It ran continuously until 2020, when it was replaced by an electric clock mechanism. This sequence adds a specific technical history to the architectural perspective: the original mechanism shaped daily life at the chapel for a long time before it was replaced.

Getting Around and the Viewpoint

The 34-kilometer M1 (1411) route runs from Domažlice through Chrastavice, Milavče, Hradiště, Netřeb, Všepadly, and the Klatovsko region to Švihov. It places Chrastavice on a longer route that passes through several named places. The directions at the burial mound field are separate: there, the blue-marked hiking trail turns south toward Chrastavice and east toward Milavče. The total length of the M1 and the local trail signs therefore provide different kinds of guidance for planning.

Chrastavická vyhlídka is an approximately five-meter-high wooden observation tower built in spring 2012. The description dated August 8, 2022, states that access was unrestricted at that time and that there was a rest area and an information board. According to the description dated August 8, 2022, a blue-marked trail runs from Chrastavice to the viewpoint, a distance of about 800 meters. Check current access and the route before your visit.
