If you are planning a stay in Cekov, you can combine nature and outdoor activities with the village’s history. The area around Cekovský rybník is used for walks and spending time in nature. Several trails also lead in different directions. Historical landmarks, a small chapel and a memorial offer further points of interest in the village.

Walking, cycling and nature

Walks and time spent in nature are among the activities described around Cekovský rybník. Cekov also has well-maintained trails suitable for hiking and cycling. One example runs through the “průhon” and across the Cekovská lávka over the motorway to the Kařezské rybníky area. So, in addition to walks by the pond, routes leading towards the surrounding ponds are another option for your stay.

Other routes differ in their stated destinations. One goes over the small dam of Cekovský rybník, through Bukov and on to Zbiroh. Another runs from Cekov through Sirá and Sirská hora towards Radeč. Conditions on the trails mentioned may change; check the latest conditions before setting out.

A natural monument important for waterbirds

The Kařezské rybníky natural monument lies partly within the cadastral area of Cekov. Covering 65.0355 hectares, it protects a breeding and migratory stopover site for waterbirds. This protective function gives the area a distinct natural appeal alongside its opportunities for walking and cycling. Planning to visit? Access conditions may change, so check them in advance.

Landmarks in the village’s history

Cekov was first mentioned in writing in 1273. The original settlement lay below the so-called Bukovská silnice and was destroyed by fire during the Hussite Wars. In 1585, Ladislav st. z Lobkovic created Salm Pond on the site of three abandoned settlements. Cekov was later rebuilt at its present location. This sequence distinguishes the history of the early settlement from the origins of the present-day village.

There were further significant events later in the village’s history: Cekov was burned down again in 1639, and a plague epidemic struck in 1680. Another connection with the past can be found on the village green: a small chapel stands there, beside a memorial to the victims of both world wars.

Getting here and finding a hotel

The road connection is a useful point of reference for getting here: Road II/605 connects Cekov directly to the D5 motorway between Prague and Plzeň. As traffic conditions can change, it is worth checking the latest conditions before travelling.

If you are looking for a hotel in Cekov, you can tailor your stay to your interests: walking and cycling, the natural features of the Kařezské rybníky, or the history of the village. This makes it easy to include the destination’s trails and cultural attractions in your travel plans.
