Terešov brings together several themes to consider when planning your trip: a Baroque castle, the town’s Jewish history, historic rural architecture and the nearby V Horách Nature Reserve. If you’re looking for a hotel for a trip to Terešov, you can first decide whether architectural history, the history of the Jewish community or nature will be the main focus of your stay.

The Castle and Other Architectural History

Terešov Castle is a Baroque castle dating from 1723. It has a rectangular floor plan and a mansard roof. Immediately next to the castle grounds is the Sýpka, a Neoclassical agricultural building that has been preserved in its original form above the village. The castle and the Sýpka represent different architectural purposes and styles: Baroque castle architecture on the one hand, and a Neoclassical agricultural building on the other.

Terešov’s art history also includes the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It is a dated High Baroque sculpture, commissioned by Count Jan Křtitel Breda. This adds a distinctive religious work of art to the larger buildings.

Jewish History

Historically, the Jewish religious community in Terešov was the first Jewish religious community in the Rokycany District. The town’s synagogue was demolished after 1960. The Jewish cemetery is about 2 km southwest of Terešov, on the road to Bílá Skála; around 300 gravestones have been preserved there.

The architectural heritage can be distinguished by location: the Sýpka adjoins the castle grounds, while the cemetery lies southwest of the town. This makes it easier to keep the different historic sites in mind when planning your trip.

A Rural Dwelling

The Venkovský dům at č.ev. 4 is a single-storey dwelling, partly built of timber. It was originally part of a small farmstead. The building dates from no later than the 1830s and was partly altered later. It complements the castle and agricultural buildings with the history of a home of farming origin. The combination of its residential function, timber construction and former connection to a farmstead gives this house a different character from the castle grounds.

Nature in the V Horách Nature Reserve

The nearby V Horách Nature Reserve protects a species-rich mixed slope forest, with numerous yew trees and abundant forest flora and fauna. Around 3,300 yew trees grow there; the oldest trees have been growing there for more than 500 years. Alongside the architectural heritage, this protected forest habitat offers another focus for your trip planning.

The reserve is best reached from Terešov via a farm track. Along the way, there is a chapel on the slope with a lovely view of the surrounding area. Check the path conditions before your visit, as they may change.

Regional Orientation

The Rokycany District has marked hiking trails and well-maintained forest paths with rest areas. The Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area extends as far as Zbiroh, which is 6 km southwest of Terešov. These details add a regional perspective to the town’s architectural and natural attractions.
