Němčovice: Discover nature, cycling and culture
Accommodation in Němčovice
Anyone looking for a hotel for a trip to Němčovice can choose what to explore based on their interests: natural landscapes and cycling sit alongside distinctive cultural and historical landmarks.
Nature park, valley and wildlife
Němčovice lies in Horní Berounka Nature Park. The surrounding area borders the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area (CHKO) and the northern edge of the Brdy region. One distinctive landscape feature is Olešenský potok, a small right-bank tributary of the Berounka, which also lies within Horní Berounka Nature Park. Below the village of Olešná, the stream forms a wooded valley up to 60 metres deep. To put this into perspective, the nature park and adjoining landscapes provide the broader setting, while the valley is a specific landscape feature.
Nature and outdoor activity appeal to different interests, too. Visitors can cycle along the Naučná stezka Údolí mloků (Valley of the Salamanders Educational Trail). Fire salamanders, yellow-bellied toads, slow worms and eagle owls can be found in the area around Olešenský potok.
Special sites and cultural history
An unusual cultural landmark is Pařezová chaloupka, a bus stop on the Class II/232 road between Rokycany and Kralovice. Its design was inspired by the 1968 animated series Pohádky z mechu a kapradí. The site thus brings together an everyday transport function and a specific motif from the series. The stop was officially opened on 2 June 2019. On 22 January 2024, the Němčovice, Pařezová bus stop was added to the Czech Book of Records. The dates mark different milestones: 1968 for the series that inspired it, 2019 for the official opening and 2024 for the entry in the record book.
Hradiště Radná is part of the archaeological heritage. The fortified site covers a total area of 4.5 hectares and includes several ramparts and an outer bailey. An area of 4.5 hectares is equivalent to 45,000 square metres, giving a sense of its scale. A rampart is a mound of earth and forms part of a fortification. An outer bailey is the area in front of a castle complex; it is a distinct section, not a single rampart. The terms therefore distinguish between a structural element and an area of the complex.
Another historic monument is Sloup se sochou Ecce Homo (Column with Ecce Homo Statue). The column, with its statue of Ecce Homo, dates from 1722 and depicts the biblical Ecce Homo theme. The restored original of the statue is kept in a chapel that is open to the public during the summer tourist season. The chapel’s seasonal opening is important when planning your visit. The cultural themes differ: Pařezová chaloupka draws on a motif from a TV series, while the Ecce Homo column embodies a biblical subject; pop culture and religion thus come together as two distinct themes.
