Líšná lies on an elevated plateau at about 525 m above sea level. Fields surround the village, with extensive forests stretching beyond them. The location and the change from fields to forest give the landscape a clear framework. The surroundings connect the history of Řebřík Castle, northwest of the village, with church buildings in Líšná and at Řebřík. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, the landscape, castle history, and churches can help you choose the focus of your trip.

Řebřík Castle and the vanished village

The ruins of Řebřík Castle lie 2 km northwest of Líšná and can be reached via a green-marked trail. Trail conditions may change, so it is a good idea to check the current situation before setting out. The castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century. It had already begun to fall into disrepair by the end of the 15th century. The castle, together with the nearby village of the same name, probably finally disappeared at the beginning of the 16th century. The chronology is important: the decline had already begun in the 15th century, while the final disappearance of the castle and village probably dates to the early 16th century. Today, only the Church of St. Peter and Paul remains as a reminder of the vanished village of Řebřík, which lay below the castle. It dates from around the middle of the 14th century.

Layout of the castle complex

The castle’s central section was dominated by a three-part palace. There were also two outer baileys, separated from the central section by deep ditches. The complex can thus be divided into the central castle area and two outer sections. The surviving features of the castle’s economic landscape include a farmyard, a quarry, and a pond. A connecting route, in the form of sunken lanes, is also visible.

Two churches and their historical context

The Church of St. Wenceslas, built in 1869, stands in Líšná’s village square. By comparison, the Church of St. Peter and Paul at Řebřík dates from around the middle of the 14th century. The two churches represent different historical contexts: one is a building in the village square, while the other is the only surviving reminder of the vanished village.

Routes and cultural stops

The “Z hradu na hrad” route is described as moderately difficult and takes up to 610 minutes. It passes the Church of St. Václav in Líšná’s village square. The duration is an important planning detail for this tour; trail conditions and signage may change. Check them before setting out.

The sister of the young painter Mikuláš Aleš stayed at the Na Chrastech forester’s lodge. The Stations of the Cross by Adriana Skálová are located by the Church of St. Peter and Paul at Řebřík. Occasional classical music concerts are also held at this church. If you would like to include a concert in your trip, check the specific dates in advance.
