Medový Újezd: History, Swimming Pool and Nature
Accommodation in Medový Újezd
Medový Újezd brings together several themes to consider when planning your trip: local history, a swimming pool complex open seasonally and protected nature. The monument and historic houses reflect different periods. Hiking destinations vary, from the climb up Mount Trhoň to crossing the Brdy Ridge and accessing Bílá skála.
Local history and historic houses
The first written mention of Medový Újezd dates from 1336. At that time, Petr z Rožmberka received, among other things, half of the village as hereditary property from King Jan Lucemburský. A monument in the lower part of the village commemorates six soldiers who fell in the First World War. It was unveiled in May 1923; a plaque commemorating the victims of the fascist occupation was added later.
The two-storey wooden house No. 15 dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its stone or masonry ground floor supports a timber-framed upper storey; the house also has a mansard roof and an inhabited gallery. Cottage No. 9 dates from the first half of the 19th century. Its date adds another historical reference to the building history of the village.
The swimming pool complex in summer
During the summer months, the swimming pool complex is used by local residents, holidaymakers and people from surrounding communities. The complex includes a sauna, refreshments with a summer terrace and sanitary facilities. There is also a hard-surface court for tennis and ball sports. The pool is supplied with clean water from the adjacent forests; water conditions vary seasonally. Before your visit, check seasonal access and the current operating status of the individual facilities.
Protected nature
Protected areas associated with Medový Újezd include the PP Medový Újezd Natural Monument and Trhoň Nature Park. The natural monument protects a significant palaeontological site from the Middle Bohemian Cambrian, in the Lingulella matthewi subzone. The two protected-area designations therefore have different focuses: the natural monument centres on the geological site.
Hikes and destinations
Medový Újezd is a starting point for a hike up Mount Trhoň. A route listed in August 2026 under the name “Přes Trhoň” passes through the village twice. For trip planning, these are different pieces of information: one describes Medový Újezd as the starting point for the ascent, while the other describes the course of the route “Přes Trhoň,” listed in August 2026, which according to the listing passes through the village twice. From Medový Újezd, you can also cross the Brdy Ridge towards the ruins of Vartemberk Castle (Vimberk). Bílá skála can also be reached from the Medový Újezd side; however, no marked hiking trail leads to the summit. As trail conditions may change, check the current route before setting out.
