Staré Těchanovice: Views, History and Hotels
Accommodation in Staré Těchanovice
Staré Těchanovice appeals to travelers with two clear highlights: the landscape around the Kružberk Dam and the history of the former spa at Jánské Koupele. The Těchanovická viewpoint lies on the western edge of the village; the spa complex is in the valley of the Moravice near Staré Těchanovice. The church and chapel add the village’s religious history to these themes.
Landscape and Views
The Těchanovická viewpoint is on the western edge of Staré Těchanovice, 1 km from the Kružberk Dam. In good visibility, the view extends over the dam and the former volcano Velký Roudný to the Jeseníky Mountains. The viewpoint also offers a bird’s-eye view of the Staré Těchanovice valley. The long-distance panorama and the valley view offer two different perspectives.
The viewpoint is free for tourists and the public to use and is generally open year-round. It may be temporarily closed for safety or technical reasons. Therefore, check whether access is currently open before your visit. The cadastral area of Staré Těchanovice lies within the protected zone of Moravice Nature Park, adding another geographic point of reference to the landscape.
The Former Spa at Jánské Koupele
The former spa complex at Jánské Koupele has been listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic since 2005. The complex comprises eleven buildings and plots of land in the valley on both banks of the Moravice near Staré Těchanovice in the Opava District. The listing therefore covers a site with multiple buildings and plots of land.
Mineral springs at Jánské Koupele have been documented since 1640; the spa itself was established in 1811 with the construction of its first spa house. The dates mark different milestones: 1640 refers to the documentation of the springs, while 1811 marks the start of the spa. This distinguishes the springs’ early history from the later establishment of the spa. The 171 years between the documentation of the springs in 1640 and the spa’s establishment amount to more than a century and a half.
Church, Chapel and Routes
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul dates from 1838, and the Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers from 1928. The construction dates are 90 years apart. Lesy České republiky restored the chapel to its original condition in 2008 and 2009. Before 1940, it was a pilgrimage site, with regular pilgrimages held on June 26.
From Staré Těchanovice, the chapel can be reached via field and forest paths. The village’s history and the routes to the chapel therefore offer a distinct focus alongside the view from the Těchanovická viewpoint and the history of the spa.
