Raduň: Castle History, Gardens and Trails
Accommodation in Raduň
Raduň brings together castle history, garden architecture and outdoor trails. The Raduň State Castle is the town’s largest cultural monument. For planning your trip, you can distinguish local highlights by interest: castle tours reveal different aspects of life at the castle, while the orangery, Trinity Church and landscape offer their own architectural and historical perspectives.
Castle tours offering different perspectives
The “Jižní zámek A (základní okruh)” tour shows the aristocratic family’s reception rooms and the private quarters of the household staff. This places different groups of castle rooms side by side. The tour conveys the lifestyle of the castle’s residents from the early 19th century to the mid-20th century, spanning a broad period of time.
A different perspective is offered by “Vzpomínky na Afriku – aristokrat na cestě do neznáma”: this tour follows in the footsteps of Count Gebhard Blücher and his 1894 journey to southern Africa. Unlike the first tour’s long time span, this one focuses on a single year of travel. The two themes thus highlight different aspects of history: castle life across generations and the travel story of an aristocrat.
The “Teplo domova: technické zázemí raduňského zámku” tour takes visitors into the attic rooms, roof spaces and cellar of Raduň Castle. This brings the castle’s technical side into view alongside its living quarters and travel history. As availability may vary seasonally, check in advance whether the tour is offered on your visit date.
Orangery, church and park
The “Oranžérie s okrasnou zahradou C” visitor attraction includes a neoclassical orangery dating from 1825 to 1826, an adjoining ornamental and herb garden, and an orchard. Its architectural style and different types of gardens form a distinct highlight alongside the castle tours. Visitor policies may change, so check the current rules before your visit.
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Raduň was built between 1598 and 1603. It is a single-nave Renaissance church; its architectural design is associated with a defensive or fortification function. Raduň Castle Park is also part of the town’s historic design: it was laid out as an English-style park for romantic walks and carriage rides. The sacred architecture and park design thus complement the castle’s history with further aspects of the town.
Hiking trails, cycling route and transport
For hiking, a yellow-marked trail runs through Raduň, north towards Opava and south past the castle through the valley of the Raduňka stream to Jakubčovice. Cycling route 6078, “Údolím Raduňky,” runs along the edge of the castle park and connects Fulnek with Opava. The routes are distinguished by their specific directions: the hiking trail is described by its course through Raduň and onward to Jakubčovice, while the cycling route is described by its path along the park edge and its two endpoints.
The Moravice Nature Park is also part of the landscape: its boundary runs through the cadastral area of Raduň. For travel from Opava, city bus line 218 serves the Jednota and Raduň – škola stops in Raduň. As timetables may change, check the times for your travel date before setting off.
