Háj ve Slezsku offers a clear thematic focus to help you choose where to stay: Silesian cultural history meets views across the surrounding area. Churches, memorial sites, and Smolkovská tvrz reveal different aspects of this history; on Ostrá hůrka, a north-facing viewpoint adds to the character of the area. When looking for a hotel, you can consider whether architectural history, commemorative culture, or the landscape should take center stage during your stay.

Churches, Chapels, and Memorial Sites

The Church of St. Valentine was declared a cultural monument in May 2015. The church was built in 1911 and has retained its artistic form. These two details offer different points of reference for a visit: the date it was declared a cultural monument and the church’s construction history. This allows you to explore the site both through its historical recognition and the preservation of its artistic form.

The Silesian Scouting Memorial (Památník slezského skautingu) was erected from 1971 onward in response to the ban on the Junák movement. Its origins are therefore closely linked to the movement’s history. For travelers interested in the Silesian scouting movement, the memorial offers a clearly defined historical connection that goes beyond a mere date.

The Vladislav Vančura Memorial was erected in 1972 on the main road in the western part of Háj ve Slezsku. Its bust is also part of its history: the original bust, a work by sculptor Karel Vašut, was stolen in 2002 and replaced with a replica. The focus here is therefore on both the memorial’s origins and the change to its original form.

The Neo-Gothic Chapel of Our Lady (Panny Marie) was built in 1877 by local settlers. Its Neo-Gothic design gives the chapel a distinctive architectural character compared with the Church of St. Valentine. The dates also distinguish the two religious buildings: the chapel dates from 1877, while the church was built in 1911.

Smolkovská tvrz and the Educational Trail

Smolkovská tvrz is located on Padařov Hill. It was built between 1936 and 1938 as part of a fortification belt and consists of five underground structures connected to one another. Its construction period, place in the fortification belt, and the connections between its five structures give the complex a clear historical and architectural context. An educational trail leads around the structures of Smolkovská tvrz. This makes it possible to understand the site in terms of both its individual components and its role in the fortification belt.

Ostrá hůrka: Views and Silesian History

Ostrá hůrka is a hill belonging to Chabičov, 315 meters above sea level, and an important site of the Silesian national revival. The viewpoint faces north, offering views of Háj ve Slezsku and other municipalities in Silesia. The landscape and cultural significance come together here, but offer different reasons to explore the hill. Next to the Mohyla slezských skautů monument are two benches where you can rest after the climb. If you plan to rely on this seating, check whether it is available before your visit.
