Mokré Lazce: Local History, Sports and Paleontology
Accommodation in Mokré Lazce
Mokré Lazce offers travelers several distinct points of interest: a protected cultural monument, local church and architectural history, community gathering places, and club activities. The main factor in choosing where to stay is therefore the purpose of your trip. Those interested in local history will find different points of interest from travelers following club or cycling topics. A separate area of specialized interest is the Mokré Lazce–Lipovice paleontological site; however, an important access note applies.
Churches and Local History
The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Mokré Lazce is a protected cultural monument. Local history also includes the fact that the Tvorkovští had a wooden church built in Mokré Lazce in the 16th century and handed it over to the administration of the Dominican Order. The Chapel of Saint Anne adds another point of interest: it is a small Baroque chapel dating from 1747, located on a road within the built-up area. The protected status of the named church, a historical construction and administrative event, and the precisely dated chapel thus represent different aspects of local history.
The parish of Mokré Lazce took part in the Night of Churches on June 7, 2024. At the local Church of Saint John the Baptist, the program at the time included, among other things, an exhibition on the history of the church and parish, a musical performance, and an interactive program for children. The program ranged from the history of the church and parish to music and an interactive activity for children.
Gathering Place and Events
Areál Na skalách serves as a gathering place for local residents and people from the surrounding area. A maypole is traditionally erected there, and official events and informal gatherings also take place. These uses reflect different aspects of local life: the maypole represents a recurring custom, while official events and informal gatherings offer different ways for people to come together. The best way to reach Areál Na skalách from the village is through a pedestrian tunnel. If you plan to include the gathering place in your itinerary, take this access route into account.
Sports and Club Activities
For sports enthusiasts, Lyžařský klub Mokré Lazce is another point of interest. A municipal description from November 2025 lists competitive and recreational sports at Lyžařský klub Mokré Lazce in cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, road cycling, MTB, and recreational tourism; it also mentions road cycling and MTB races. The distinction between the club's sports and race formats is useful: cross-country and alpine skiing are listed alongside two cycling disciplines, while road cycling and MTB are specifically named as race types. If you are interested in taking part, check the current options in advance, as participation requirements may change.
Paleontological Site
The holotype of a trigonotarbid arachnid was found at the Mokré Lazce–Lipovice paleontological site. It is also the source of the oldest fossil of a land animal discovered in the territory of today's Czech Republic. The holotype and the oldest land-animal fossil are two paleontological points of interest associated with the site. In addition to its scientific significance, practical access is a consideration for visitors: the only access route is currently heavily silted up and very overgrown. Check conditions on site before attempting to access it.
