Čilipi combines village history and traditional culture with opportunities for cycling and hiking. These interests offer a useful way to choose how to spend your stay: in the village, the museum, the Church of St. Nicholas and the Sunday folklore events take centre stage; the routes offer a different way to experience the landscape of Konavle.

Location and orientation

The municipality of Općina Konavle encompasses a fertile valley that stretches up to 35 km in length and up to 12 km in width. Čilipi lies on the southwestern edge of the Konavle Field at an elevation of 184 m. Dubrovnik Airport is close to the village. Check current transport connections for your journey.

Museum and village history

The Konavle County Museum is located in the centre of Čilipi, in a former village treasury dating from 1909. Its ethnographic collection comprises around 700 objects, including traditional costumes, embroidery and textile handicrafts, jewellery, weapons, musical instruments, paintings, photographs and household items. The collection showcases material and intangible traces of traditional life in Konavle; the embroidery illustrates the region’s traditional needlework.

The ground floor hosts temporary exhibitions on the material and intangible heritage of Konavle. The museum also offers lectures, educational programmes, publications and multimedia content. As exhibitions change, it is worth checking the current exhibition calendar before your visit.

Church and Sunday folklore

The parish church of St. Nicholas dates from the 19th century; its bell tower dates from 1898. Since 1967, folklore events have been held every Sunday in the square in front of the church, from Palm Sunday until the end of October. After Sunday Mass at 11:15 a.m., KUD Čilipi presents Konavle customs there through song and dance. If you would like to include this in your plans, check the current annual calendar before travelling.

On foot or by bike

The signposted 25 km circular route starts in Čilipi’s main square and passes through Gruda, Ljuta and Pridvorje. The route alternates between asphalt and gravel, with an elevation gain of about 270 m. It is considered suitable for trekking and mountain bikes. Its circular layout, surface and elevation gain give you concrete points of reference when deciding whether to include this cycling route in your plans.

The Cavtat–Močići–Čilipi hiking trail is 8 km long and passes through the coastal landscape of Konavle. Its relatively even elevation profile makes it suitable for recreational hikers. Side paths lead to swimming spots along the cliffs of Konavle; access conditions may vary by season. Check current trail conditions before setting out. At 8 km, this route is shorter than the 25 km cycling circuit; these details can help you choose between a walk and a longer cycling loop.

Rural life and cuisine

Seoska kuća in Čilipi presents rural life through a garden, agricultural produce, domestic animals, a small ethnographic museum and a wine cellar. It offers an insight into rural ways of life alongside the village’s collections and cultural sites. Seoska kuća describes its cuisine as rooted in the Konavle tradition: it uses fresh local ingredients, preferably home-grown, and family recipes. Check whether Seoska kuća is currently open before visiting; the food on offer and its availability may change.
