Molunat – Bays, Coast and History
Accommodation in Molunat
Molunat is considered a small fishing and tourist destination. If you are looking for a hotel in Molunat, it is worth first sorting out your interests for your stay: bays and marine habitats shape the coastline, while visible remains of fortifications and archaeological finds reveal another side of the destination.
Coast, Bays and Marine Habitats
Molunat’s natural beaches include Uvala Godan, Uvala Roševa and Velja dolina. The Gora od Molunta peninsula encloses Gornji Molunat Bay to the southeast and Donji Molunat Bay to the northwest. The islet of Veli Škoj protects Gornji Molunat from strong southerly winds. If you are planning a visit to a particular beach, check local access and facilities, as these may change.
In the Molunat planning area, Posidonia meadows and infralittoral rocky seabed are among the marine habitats. The HR2001260 Poluotok Molunat ecological network site includes Mediterranean coastal cliffs with endemic Limonium species. Different aspects of nature can therefore be found side by side: habitats on the seabed and distinctive plant life on the cliffs.
Luka Gornji Molunat serves the Molunat area as a mooring and tourist anchorage of local importance. Port and anchorage regulations may change. Check locally if you plan to make use of these facilities.
Fortifications and Archaeological Traces
Remains of defensive walls and fortifications are visible on the Gora od Molunta peninsula. Archaeological finds in Molunat have been discovered both on land and in the sea. Excavations at Metale uncovered two ancient structures in 1973. For travelers interested in a destination’s history as well as its coast, Molunat combines visible architectural remains with archaeological finds.
