In the Municipality of Staro Petrovo Selo, you can discover church architecture, traces of history and varied landscapes. In the north, the wooded southern slopes of Požeška gora shape the municipality; vineyards and orchards extend across the hillsides. To the south, the land gradually slopes down towards the Crnac plain. This contrast provides a clear point of reference for your trip, between hilly terrain and open fields.

Church architecture and frescoes

The parish church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Staro Petrovo Selo was built and consecrated in 1777. It is a single-nave Baroque building. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave. The choir contains three frescoes painted by Antun Keller in 1819: the Nativity of Jesus, the Transfiguration of Jesus and the Last Supper. This building brings together Baroque architecture and a clearly identified cycle of paintings from the early 19th century.

Historical traces in the settlements

The local settlements also contain various religious and archaeological traces. Oštri Vrh has a chapel dedicated to Saint Vitus, which belongs to the parish of Saint Anthony of Padua in Staro Petrovo Selo. The ruins of the Church of Saint Ladislaus near Oštri Vrh were mentioned in 1730; they stood on a hill among vineyards. Finds of pottery, as well as stone and bronze objects, in the Oštri Vrh area attest to settlement since prehistoric times. At the same time, the area has so far been insufficiently researched. In Tisovac, the chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise is one of the settlement’s notable religious buildings. According to a recorded account, the nobleman Tvrda built the Tvrdić complex in the village area in the 13th century.

The history of industry in Staro Petrovo Selo includes milk processing: on 27 May 1941, the company was renamed “Herman Wentenze, mljekara Slavija.” It is considered Croatia’s first factory for milk powder and condensed milk. In Štivica, the making of wooden souvenirs is a distinctive local craft.

Nature, wine and local traditions

Jambrovac lies above Tisovac. This destination attracts visitors in good weather who are looking for fresh air and time in nature. If you would like to combine your trip with a stay there, you can take this aspect of the landscape into account when planning.
