Općina Brodski Stupnik: Culture, Wine and Landscape
Accommodation in Općina Brodski Stupnik
The municipality of Brodski Stupnik lies below the foothills of the Dilj Mountains and comprises the settlements of Brodski Stupnik, Krajačići, Lovčić and Stari Slatinik. In Stari Slatinik, the landscape can be described by cardinal direction: wooded hills of the Dilj Mountains border the settlement to the north, while the flat Posavina, fertile fields, floodplain meadows and forests stretch to the south. Wooded heights and open, flat landscapes thus lie side by side.
History and Architecture
The surviving and well-preserved captain’s building in Brodski Stupnik was built in 1828. St. Martin’s Church in Lovčić was built in 1167 and renovated in 1756; the present-day St. Joseph’s Church in Stari Slatinik dates from 1894. Together, these dates span the period from medieval church construction to the 19th century; in the case of St. Martin’s, the later renovation should also be distinguished from the original construction.
The remains of the fortified settlement of Gradište in Mrsunjski lug, south of Brodski Stupnik, date from the period between the 10th and 18th centuries. Villa Štrba in Stupničko brdo was built around 1930 with elements of Romanticism and the Hungarian Secession. Here, the remains of a fortified settlement are juxtaposed with a villa featuring named architectural elements. Another religious site is the Way of the Cross in Stari Slatinik, a sacred landmark in the Obrijež forest.
The town’s history is also interpreted for visitors: the conversion of the former school in Lovčić into the Sv. Martin Interpretation Centre was completed in November 2024. The centre focuses on the town’s past and traditions, as well as the significance of St. Martin.

This means you can encounter wine both as part of the restaurant’s offerings and through tastings and sales at the cellars. As the restaurant menu and the arrangements at individual cellars may change, it is advisable to check before planning a visit.
