Sava River landscapes, the parish church and Kolo traditions give Davor Municipality a distinctive character. For planning your trip, the area offers different perspectives: nature along the river, a cycling route and places of cultural remembrance. Depending on what you would like to focus on, the landscape of Bokovi and the church’s furnishings offer different points of interest. Davor’s architecture is considered unique in the area.

The Sava, Bokovi and riverside routes

Davor Municipality lies on the Sava. Bokovi, a lowland area on the left bank, is outside Davor’s built-up area and is considered suitable for outings, recreation, camping and weekend stays. Its location connects the landscape with different kinds of trips, from an outing to a longer stay. Bokovi thus offers a different focus from Davor’s parish church and its richly furnished interior.

The Sava cycling route runs along the left bank of the river through Orubica and Davor. In Davor, a maintained promenade runs along the Sava. Davor Municipality is also associated with boat trips and river navigation; Davor is known as a boatmen’s town. These offer different ways to experience the river: a cycling route along the bank, a promenade in Davor, and a connection to boats and river navigation. If cycling, the promenade or the river tradition matters to your trip, you can consider these aspects separately when choosing where to visit.

Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen and Saint George

The parish church in Davor was built in 1865. After extensions and renovations, it took on its final appearance in 2005. Its furnishings bring together works from several periods: the organs are attributed to the organ builder Vjencesalav Holub of Požega and date to 1921; the bronze Stations of the Cross were created by Jure Žaja in 1999. The main altar features a bronze relief of Mary Queen.

Glass and wood also carry their own imagery. The stained-glass windows depict Saint George defeating the dragon and the Holy Family. The wooden furnishings were made by artist Marija Franca Rizvić of Orubica together with carpenter Vinko Vitolić. Beneath the altar, a wooden relief depicts scenes from everyday life in Davor, including fieldwork and fishing. Sacred subjects and depictions of daily life thus stand side by side within the church.

Kolo traditions and places of cultural remembrance

Davor’s traditional Christmas walking Kolo has the status of protected cultural heritage. As a centuries-old cultural practice, it helped preserve the community’s collective identity.

In Orubica, Kolo na dva štuka is protected intangible cultural heritage of Croatia and is performed by 16 girls and 16 boys. Kolo na dva štuka is also the name of a folklore festival held in Orubica at the end of August. The name thus refers both to the cultural heritage and to an event. Check the current program before your trip if you would like to include the festival in your plans.

The Ribarske veÄŤeri commemorates the traditions of the Posavina community in Davor; tambura music is part of the event. It takes place in August. At the 2025 edition, freshly prepared fish dishes in various styles, traditional Slavonian specialities, homemade products and regional delicacies were offered. If you would like to include the Ribarske veÄŤeri in your plans, check the current program before your trip.

Ĺ etnica hrvatskih branitelja is associated with the remembrance of the suffering of Croatian defenders during the Homeland War. Beside the promenade stand 19 flagpoles: the central pole is dedicated to all the heroes of the Homeland War, while 18 smaller ones commemorate the fallen Croatian defenders from Davor. The dedications turn the focus both to the heroes of the war as a whole and to those who fell from Davor.

Brod-Posavina in a wider context

In the wider Brod-Posavina destination, the Sava is Croatia’s largest river and a natural border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the county level, other cultural sites complement the themes of Davor. Tvrđava Brod is considered the county’s most important historic building; the fortress houses the Tambura Museum and the Ružić Gallery. In Vrpolje, the Spomen galerija Ivana Meštrovića displays 35 sculptures and reliefs in plaster and bronze. The cultural context thus extends from Davor’s church art and Kolo traditions to the collections and buildings of the wider Brod-Posavina destination.
