When planning your trip, you can consider the buildings in Brodski Stupnik itself separately from the other attractions in the wider destination of Općina Brodski Stupnik. This helps you understand the town and the broader municipal area in terms of their respective cultural highlights.

Architectural Heritage in Brodski Stupnik

Brodski Stupnik’s architectural heritage includes the Captain’s House, the old school building, Villa Štrba, and the rural summer house Grašić. The villa offers a particular point of reference through its approximate construction date and architectural features: it was built around 1930, incorporating elements of Romanticism and the Hungarian Secession. Thus, Brodski Stupnik brings together a range of buildings and a clearly defined architectural highlight.

In the Wider Destination of Općina Brodski Stupnik

The municipality of Brodski Stupnik lies below the foothills of the Dilj Mountains. It comprises the settlements of Brodski Stupnik, Krajačići, Lovčić, and Stari Slatinik.

Building History and Cultural Sites

The preserved and well-maintained Captain’s House in Brodski Stupnik was built in 1828. Villa Štrba in Stupničko brdo dates from around 1930 and is characterized by elements of Romanticism and the Hungarian Secession. The two construction dates are approximately a century apart. The building history therefore combines different points in time with a specific architectural description of the villa.

Other historic sites are spread across the municipality’s settlements. The Church of St. Martin in Lovčić was built in 1167 and renovated in 1756. The present-day Church of St. Joseph in Stari Slatinik dates from 1894 and should be distinguished from the former wooden chapel. Those interested in religious history will find two different construction periods and locations within the municipality.

In Stari Slatinik, a local history collection presents a reconstructed rural household from the early 20th century. Its themes include traditional occupations, archaeological finds, the later history of the settlement, and works by local artists. A different historical focus is provided by the remains of the fortified settlement of Gradište in Mrsunjski lug, south of Brodski Stupnik. They date from the 10th to the 18th century. The Stations of the Cross in Stari Slatinik are a sacred site in the Obrijež forest.

The Sv. Martin Interpretation Centre is also part of Lovčić’s cultural context: the former school was converted for this purpose, with the work completed in November 2024. Its focus is on the settlement’s past and traditions, as well as the significance of Saint Martin.

Landscape, Wine, and Events

Stari Slatinik is bordered to the north by the wooded hills of the Dilj Mountains. To the south stretch the flat Posavina region, fertile fields, flood meadows, and forests. This contrast between the wooded heights to the north and the open landscape to the south provides a clear sense of the area’s layout. The municipality’s tourist infrastructure also includes the cycling route titled 4 Chapels.

The wine tradition includes the Stupnička Grape Harvest, which marks the start of the grape harvest with folklore groups, traditional customs, singing, dancing, and staged performances. Check dates and programme details for your intended year of travel. Along the road above Brodski Stupnik, winemakers present their wines in cellars and offer them for sale. Restaurant Stupnički Dvori serves traditional Slavonian cuisine and wines from the Galić winery. As restaurant offerings can change, check the current selection before planning a visit.

The singing gathering Drum drumila by the PS Drumarice vocal group is scheduled to take place in Brodski Stupnik on 17 October 2026. It adds a dedicated musical event to the grape harvest celebrations. If you are planning your trip around a festival or a particular cultural site, include the relevant settlement name when choosing where to stay and which hotel to book.
