Kitzbühel: Culture, Trails and Mountain Activities
Accommodation in Kitzbühel
Cultural history, historic trails and mountain activities give a trip to Kitzbühel a range of different highlights. You can shape your stay around the experiences that interest you most—from a visit to a museum to an outdoor excursion.
Museums and history
The Kitzbühel Museum offers a historical journey from Late Bronze Age copper mining through the town’s development, the heyday of modern mining and Baroque culture, to sporting history, including the Kitzbühel Ski Wunder Team of the 1950s. Across 250 m², the museum displays selected major works, manuscripts, photographs and designs by Alfons Walde, who worked as a painter, architect, graphic artist and publisher. The entire museum is wheelchair accessible via a lift.
The St. Johann in Tirol Museum also combines history with a special setting: it is housed in two underground buildings connected to each other, which served as a reformatory for sinful priests in the 18th century. One of the exhibition’s main themes is the Kaisergebirge mountain range. Audio tours are available on smartphones in three languages; as programme details may change, check the latest visitor information before your visit.
Historic trails and tours
The Schwendt village loop takes you through the historic village centre. A detour leads to the Hackerkreuz and the viewing cross dating from 1652. The loop combines a route through the village with two specific stops that can serve as useful landmarks for your outing.
For the Streif Summer Experience, the Hahnenkamm cable car provides access; the circular hike starts at the Streif start house. For an extended cycling tour, the KAT-BIKE-LIGHT tour runs through the valleys of the Kitzbühel Alps. It offers views of the Hohe Salve, Brixental, St. Johann in Tirol and Pillerseetal regions and is 226 km long.
Excursions for different interests
Timok’s Wild World family park is located at the Streuböden mid-station in Fieberbrunn and offers numerous attractions for all ages. You can reach it on the F1 Streubödenbahn, which operates seasonally, or take hiking trail no. 8 from the valley station to the mid-station. These two options offer different ways to enjoy your outing: by cable car or on foot.
Triassic Park is located on the Steinplatte in Waidring, at an altitude of around 1,600 metres. Its themes include dinosaurs, the ancient sea and times long gone. The family-friendly Triassic Trail, a circular hiking route with numerous life-size dinosaur models, runs around the mountain station. A visit to a themed park and a hike featuring prehistoric sights are the main attractions.
The Aurach Wildlife Park is home to 350 animals, including red deer, fallow deer, mouflons, lynxes and yaks. Wildlife feeding takes place daily at 2:30 pm; seasonal safety exceptions may apply. The PillerseeTal FamilyMoments all-inclusive card covers numerous activities in Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Jakob in Haus, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Waidring. Services and validity periods may change, so check what applies during your travel dates.
