A municipal notice from September 2025 listed changing rooms with toilets and a shower cubicle at Plage Gitana. It also listed four showers installed on the lawn for bathers.
Green trails and walks
Bellevue has an extensive network of footpaths and a rich green heritage. The Bois d’Avault offer walkers an appealing landscape. The Sentier des Orchidées is a footpath linking the Quartier du Champ-du-Château with the Voie verte Versoix/Pregny-Chambésy near Vengeron. The historic Route GE 1 also passes through Bellevue.
A local leaflet from November 2005 suggests a circular walk starting at the car park in front of the town hall. The route passes the municipal buildings and allotment gardens, continues to the railway line, then returns to the starting point via Chemin des Mollies and Route Suisse. Check the route locally. The leaflet also mentions a small sign by the Fontaine, opposite the entrance to Les Arbres, pointing to the Chemin de Compostelle. This pilgrimage route passed through Bellevue and was used by pilgrims from southern Germany and Austria.
Bioparc Genève: animals and ways to visit
Bioparc Genève is located at Route de Valavran 33. Visitors can observe more than 600 animals from around 95 European and exotic species. Visit options include self-guided and guided tours, feeding activities and immersive encounters. You can plan your visit according to your interest in wildlife watching and the activities on offer.
The Bioparc is served at the Valavran stop by TPG bus routes 20, 50, 52 and 53. Check the route information again before travelling. Free parking is available at the sports centre opposite the Bioparc entrance, in front of the La Vigne Blanche restaurant.
Traces of local history
Remains from the Bronze Age and Roman period have been discovered in Bellevue. The nature of the soil also shaped local history: its clay content encouraged the establishment of three brickworks and a pottery in the 18th century. Between 1776 and 1784, realignment of Route de Lausanne led to the creation of Bellevue’s first hamlet, as a stopping place with an inn.
Port-Gitana takes its name from Baroness Julie de Rothschild’s steamboat. She had a small harbour and a boathouse built for her vessel. The property now known as Château Riencourt was created in 1801, when a modest house and a mill were converted into a country residence. This local history connects individual buildings and names with different stages in Bellevue’s development.
Main road and sports facilities
The main road through the town was redesigned to calm traffic and improve the quality of the public space. The speed limit on the main route is 30 km/h. Trees add structure to the street, a cycle path is intended to make cycling safer, and parking is arranged along the central reservation. These details give a concrete impression of how the main road is designed.
Bellevue residents can use the multisport courts, beach volleyball court and pétanque court free of charge.
