Discover Ulricehamn through a wide range of experiences: hiking trails lead along lakes and through nature reserves, historic buildings tell stories of times past, and Lake Åsunden offers opportunities for swimming and paddling. Cycling options range from paved paths on former railway lines to mountain bike trails. You can plan your trip around the landscapes, activities and cultural themes that interest you most.

Hiking trails between lake, moorland and traces of culture

The 49-kilometre Åsundenleden trail runs around Lake Åsunden and past the Korpeboberg and Kråkebo nature reserves. The Björnöleden trail takes you through a different landscape: it runs through Komosse Nature Reserve, one of southern Sweden’s largest moorland areas. The Galtåsenleden trail leads to Galtåsen, the highest point in Västergötland at 362 metres above sea level. The three routes represent different geographical highlights—from the lakeshore and moorland to a prominent high point.

Shorter routes offer their own points of interest. A trail around Åsakullen passes partly through Kråkebo Nature Reserve; about one-third of the route lies within it. There is a nature and culture walk around Dalum featuring prehistoric and historical remains. The Lassalyckan Trail is a circular route of approximately 6.7 kilometres. Lassalyckan also has an accessible circular trail with tactile markers at its intersections to help with navigation. The routes vary considerably in length, from the approximately 6.7-kilometre circular trail to the 49-kilometre route around Lake Åsunden.

Cycling and activities in Lassalyckan

Ulricehamn has 70 kilometres of car-free, paved paths on former railway lines. They offer a distinctive way to explore the area by bike. Lassalyckan has marked mountain bike trails of varying difficulty. There is also a pump track with jumps and ramps on a hilly wooden course. Lassalyckan therefore offers different types of cycling side by side: marked mountain bike trails and a purpose-built course.

Lassalyckan can also be explored on foot and in winter: its trails and ski tracks can be used in both summer and winter. Ski Bike Hike in Ulricehamn has eight ski runs and seven lifts. If you’re planning a trip around physical activities, you’ll find several concrete options for how to spend the day; the offerings vary by activity and season.

Cultural history in the park and town

Ulricehamn has medieval origins and was formerly called Bogesund. Six buildings of cultural and historical interest stand in Stadsparken. Historic buildings were moved to the park between 1910 and 1948, most of them in the first seven years. The park was laid out with the aim of creating a miniature Skansen open-air museum. This timeline and purpose give the park a distinctive cultural and historical perspective.

One of the most striking buildings is Gamla Vattenverket, built in 1914 in the National Romantic style. Its original machinery is still in working order. Vattenverket is near Lake Åsunden and is now surrounded by a natural area with a lakeside promenade. Ulricehamns stationshus offers another glimpse of the past: the castle-like railway station building dates from 1906. The preserved stationshus gives an idea of what Ulricehamn looked like when rail travel was the most important form of transport.

Folkets Hus, a building more than 100 years old and largely preserved in its original condition, hosts opera and theatre performances as well as numerous films. Another cultural detail is the mural at the corner of Färgaregränd and Storgatan, which depicts Ada Nilsson. These places offer different points of interest, from architectural history and former modes of transport to performances and a work of art in the streetscape.

Lake Åsunden, bathing spots and leisure activities

Ulricehamn’s cold bath house is located on Lake Åsunden and offers cold-water bathing. All treatments include a dip in the lake and use of the sauna. At Prången bathing spot, you can rent canoes. Ulricaparken has a bathing spot with a jetty and sandy beach; the playground there includes an obstacle course, a climbing net and a zip line.

Other options offer different types of activities: Sim- och sporthallen offers swimming, baby swimming, mini swimming and water aerobics. Its facilities include two pools and a water play area. The skate park is open to the public every day of the week. Ungas fritid offers free skateboards, kick scooters and protective equipment to borrow and try out there. Sturebadet is near the centre; nearby are the cold bath house and the bus station, among other places.

Local insights and regional impressions

At Gårdarna runt sjön, visitors can experience culture, history, locally produced food and handicrafts. Café Hemma på Källebacka is located in a stable building on the grounds of Källebacka, a well-preserved 18th-century manor estate. The estate itself is not open to the public.

When choosing a hotel in Ulricehamn, you can first consider which aspects of the town you want to shape your stay: hiking by the lake and moorland, cycling on former railway lines, cultural history or water-based activities. You can compare these themes individually without limiting your trip to just one type of experience.
