Ulricehamn lies inland in western Sweden, between Borås and Jönköping. If you are looking for hotels for a stay in the city, it is worth deciding what you want to focus on first: hiking, time by Lake Åsunden, outdoor sports or historic sites will lead you to different places to visit. Trail lengths, swimming spots and cultural attractions provide concrete points of reference for planning.

Hiking trails by length

The hiking trails range from the 4.1-kilometre BlĂĄ stigen, which runs through Ulricehamn, to the approximately 6.7-kilometre Lassalyckan Trail and the 49-kilometre Ă…sundenleden. The latter runs around Lake Ă…sunden through a varied agricultural and forest landscape, passes two nature reserves and offers views of the lake from several points. The different trail lengths help you choose a route to suit the distance you want to cover; the Ă…sundenleden also takes you around the lake and through the surrounding landscape.

Sports and trails in Lassalyckan

Lassalyckan is a municipal sports and recreation facility with good training opportunities all year round. It has trails and tracks for running, skiing, mountain biking and walking, as well as illuminated running trails. The ski trails cater to different abilities, from competitive athletes to families with children. Lassalyckan therefore offers a range of activities and types of trail, while the Lassalyckan Trail, at approximately 6.7 kilometres long, provides a concrete option for a hike.

The facility also has a wakeboard park, with obstacles in one of its ponds; it was established in 2020. The Ulricehamns Golfklubb golf course is next to Lassalyckan, at the highest point in Ulricehamn. For those interested in sports and outdoor activities, this location brings together several different options, from hiking and running to skiing and water sports.

Lake Ă…sunden and swimming spots

Lake Ă…sunden is used for swimming, fishing, paddling and boating. The swimming spots differ in location and in the features described: PrĂĄngen is within walking distance of the centre and has a sandy beach. Sturebadet is near the centre, at the northern end of Lake Ă…sunden; from there, you can look out over the northern part of the lake. These two destinations therefore offer different points of reference if you are looking for a swimming spot close to the centre or with a lake view.

Ulricaparken is a playground by Lake Ă…sunden. The grounds also have a swimming spot with a bathing jetty and sandy beach. This makes it possible to distinguish between the lakeside destinations by their specific features: PrĂĄngen has a sandy beach and is within walking distance of the centre, Sturebadet offers views of the northern part of the lake, and Ulricaparken has a playground and swimming spot on the same grounds.

Buildings and history

Six buildings of cultural and historical interest stand in Stadsparken, built as a miniature version of Skansen. A municipal exhibition venue is located in Rådhuset on Stora torget. The building was constructed in 1789 and 1790 and also served as a schoolhouse until 1914. The former station building opened in 1906, when the railway line towards Falköping began operating; it has been protected as a listed building since 1991.

There is also an architectural landmark on the shore of Lake Åsunden: Vattenverket was built in 1914 in the National Romantic style, and its architecture is reminiscent of a medieval church. Folkets hus was built between 1903 and 1905 on Nygatan, east of the city centre, and later became closely associated with the labour movement and its organisations. A mural depicting Ada Nilsson can be seen at the corner of Färgaregränd and Storgatan. Films are shown in two cinema auditoriums at Folkets Hus.

Collection and exhibitions

Ulricehamn’s art and museum collection comprises more than 6,000 objects, most of which date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The public can explore the collection mainly through digitisation and smaller exhibitions at other locations in the municipality. Along with the historic buildings and municipal exhibition venue, this offers another way to discover Ulricehamn’s art and museum collection.
