Seasonal events and the snow-dependent grooming of ski slopes round out these themes. This lets you first decide whether the trail, culture or an event should shape your stay.

Hiking the Häradsvägen

The Häradsvägen runs through the municipality or parish district of Grönahög, between Grönahögs kyrka and Påbo. The section from Uddagården to Påbo is just under 13 kilometres long; the hike is estimated to take about three to five hours. With its distance and time frame, the trail can be planned as a longer activity in its own right.

The Häradsvägen is marked in blue, with red signs at some points. Information boards share facts about the route’s history. Grönahögs kyrka and Påbo kapell are along the trail. Parking for the Häradsvägen is available at the church, by Lake Påbosjön and at the Odla farm.

Bus services are also useful for planning your route: bus 267 towards Grönahög stops in Påbo and at Grönahögs kyrka. Bus 204 towards Borås, Gällstad and Hulu also stops in Påbo. Check departure times before your trip.

Landscapes and historic stops along the trail

Highlights along the Häradsvägen include Kvarnfallet, a waterfall with a drop of 40 metres. At the end of the trail lies the Mossebromossen bog. There is a bridge there whose age was determined by C14 dating to be about 500 years. This dating is an approximate age estimate.

Another distinctive feature is the Krypgranen: this unusual spruce spreads across the ground over an area of 165 square metres. Near Östenborgs säteri, the Häradsvägen also passes the remains of an old defensive castle. The waterfall, bog, spruce and castle ruins each give the trail a distinct natural or historical connection.

Church and local history

Grönahögs kyrka brings together several periods of local history. Its broad tower acquired its characteristic apron element at the end of the 18th century. Borås artist John Hedaeus designed the ceiling and gallery in 1928; the baptismal font dates to the 12th century. The church also had a medieval predecessor, probably on the same site.

Eight 18th-century grave monuments stand by the cemetery wall. The cemetery is covered with grass and has a network of gravel paths. Details about the church and cemetery add another focus to the hiking trail for travellers interested in architectural history and historical details.

Local heritage sites and seasonal events

Sockenstugan was Grönahög’s first school building; classes began there in 1847. Grönahög Hembygdsförening looks after a local heritage farm with three cottages and holds an annual torp walk. Check the dates before your trip.

The Midsummer celebration at the local heritage museum cottages includes dancing around the Midsummer pole, coffee, an exhibition and a themed guest appearance. If you want to plan your stay around this celebration, check the dates and details in advance as well.

A seasonal winter attraction is the ski slopes maintained by Grönahögs IK: when there is snow, the club grooms them on a voluntary basis using a snowmobile. Snow conditions and grooming may vary.
