In Falköping, ideas for a stay range from hiking trails and nature experiences to churches and museum exhibitions. Mösseberg brings together a variety of leisure activities, while other stops offer insights into the history of Falbygden. When planning, consider whether you would rather spend your time outdoors, enjoying cultural attractions, or doing both. This can also help you find a hotel suited to the main focus of your trip.

Hiking and nature around Falköping

Hälsoslingan is a central hiking route in Falköping. You can choose between 4, 6 and 8 kilometres. Another hiking route starts at the old Motionscentralen, opposite the campsite’s main car park. These details refer to different landmarks and routes; choose the option that best fits your plans based on the stated distance or starting point.

Mösseberg is a plateau mountain with numerous nature and leisure activities. From Burmastigen, a short boardwalk leads to a bird-watching tower with views over the reserve. If you are planning a longer hike, you can choose between a 4.5-kilometre route and a shorter 3.3-kilometre option on Mösseberg.

The facilities at Mösseberg also offer different ways to spend time outdoors. Mössebergsbacken has four ski runs and the same number of lifts. The MTB skills track features a pump track, jumps, a flow track, a children’s loop and balance obstacles. There are 9-hole and 18-hole disc golf courses; both start at the entrance to Mössebergs Camping & Stugby. These options make it easy to plan hiking, bike skills, winter sports and disc golf as separate activities.

There is also a free animal park near the observation tower on Mösseberg. Its animals include alpacas, goats, rabbits, pigs, fallow deer, Shetland ponies, peacocks and chickens. A pedestrian and cycle path leads from the nearest car park to the animal park. If you are planning a visit, this path is a useful point of reference.

Falekvarna brings together natural and cultural landscapes, with lush deciduous forests, rushing streams, meadows and grazing land. The hiking trails in the nature area have been restored. There is a summer café for a break, as well as barbecue facilities. The café is a seasonal stop, so it is particularly worth including in plans for the appropriate time of year.

Water, relaxation and cheese

Odenbadet has a family area with a whirlpool, water cannon, bubble benches, slide and paddling pool. The relaxation area includes a hot tub, cold plunge, steam room, regular sauna and relaxation room. Facilities may change, so check the current offerings before your trip. Odenbadet, at Odens Sportcenter, can be reached by car, bus, train or bicycle; it is also a good idea to check current local connections before travelling.

Falbygdens Osteria focuses on cheese and visitor experiences, including a cheese school, cheese tastings and guided tours of the cheese cellar. A cheese and delicatessen buffet is also available, featuring cheese from Falbygden as well as varieties from the surrounding area and further afield. This gives you a chance to learn more about regional cheese instead of focusing your stay exclusively on hiking and attractions.

History and culture in Falköping

Falbygdens Museum is located in central Falköping and is dedicated to the history of Falbygden. Exhibits include Sweden’s oldest dog, Hallonflickan, copies of impressive gold collars and bronze objects. Hallonflickan is thought possibly to have been sacrificed to the gods.

The townscape also features places with different historical associations. The passage grave Kyrkerör is in Plantis Park, opposite Biograf Cosmorama. Plantis was established in 1885 as one of the green spaces in the town of Falköping. The park has a restaurant, mini golf and a children’s playground; check that these are currently available before your visit.

The churches add to the picture of the region’s architectural history. The oldest parts of S:t Olofs kyrka, on the Falköping–Varnhem pilgrimage route, were built of limestone no later than the beginning of the 12th century. Gökhems kyrka dates from the 12th century, has largely retained its original appearance and is considered one of Västergötland’s best-preserved medieval churches. The oldest parts of Åsle kyrka also date from the 12th century. Together, these places offer a range of historical points of interest without requiring you to limit your trip to a single theme.

This way, you can choose where to stay based on your travel plans without combining the different attractions into a single outing.
