Glimåkra combines trails through nature with insights into local history and traditional crafts. When planning your trip, it helps to understand the differences between the available options: there are hiking and fitness trails, seasonal swimming opportunities, cultural attractions and set visiting hours for a local heritage farm in the nearby area.

Hiking trails and outdoor activities

Glimåkra has several fitness and hiking trails. Trollstigen is designed as an adventure trail for children; the Skåneleden also runs through Trollabackarna. The trails start at the car parks by Trollacenter or Trollabadet. These two starting points help you choose where to begin, without implying a specific walking time.

Trollacenter offers activities for the whole family: short walking trails, a skate park, a playground and an outdoor gym. This means you can consider short walks and other leisure activities as different options for your stay. Which ones suit your travel plans depends on whether you would rather explore a trail or make use of the facilities at Trollacenter.

Trollabadet is located by Lake Trollasjön, with the forest of Trollabackarna in the background. The outdoor pool is one of the two seasonal outdoor pools in Östra Göinge Municipality. The pools open in summer, from June to August. Check the seasonal dates for your travel period. The Trollarinken ice rink is also located on the Trollacenter grounds. There, you can play curling on two smaller rinks; availability depends on the season and should be checked before your visit.

Church, architecture and local history

Glimåkra Church is centrally located and surrounded by a leafy park. The present church was built in 1837–1838 on the site of an older church dating from the 13th century. If you are interested in how the townscape developed, you can compare this building history with the preserved wooden architecture of the station community: much of it dates from around 1900 and has survived to this day.

The history of transport is also part of the town’s story. The Glimåkra–Kristianstad railway line was built in 1886, directly beside the church. The church is open during services and on weekdays from 8 am to 3 pm. These hours can help you plan when to visit.

Museums and local stories

The permanent exhibition at the Swedish Loom Museum includes looms and weaving tools. The museum also has a library with books on textiles. Eight to ten courses in crafts and traditional arts and crafts are held there each year, with a focus on hand weaving. The programme may vary from year to year; if a course is important to your trip, check what is on offer during the relevant period.

The Glimma Glass Museum displays photographs and glass from the former factory, which closed in 1969. Stories from the town, part of the Kulturspåret cultural trail and retold by Per Gustavsson, offer another way to experience Glimåkra’s culture. The collected works of Hiroshi Koyama can also be seen in Glimåkra.

A visit to the nearby area

Drakeberga Heritage Farm is located north of Glimåkra, right next to Trollabadet. The heritage farm preserves donated objects from various places associated with the parish. It is open from May to September on the first Tuesday of each month, from 2:30 pm to 5 pm. When planning your visit, it is worth checking this regular monthly opening against the seasonal opening of the outdoor pool.

This gives you a choice of different ways to spend your time in Glimåkra: trails and nature, leisure facilities at Trollacenter, or a look at the church, crafts and local history. If you are planning your trip around a particular date or seasonal activity, take its opening hours and availability into account.
