Discover Lund: trails, nature and culture
Accommodation in Lund
There are many different ways to discover Lund: on short circular trails through wetlands, on longer routes through the municipality, and among churches, museums and gardens. You can shape your stay around the themes that interest you mostâfrom birdwatching and landscapes to art and science.
Walking and cycling routes
At Nöbbelövs mosse, an approximately 3 km circular trail loops around a large pasture and returns to GunnesbogÄrden. Its approximate length makes it a shorter alternative to the 12 km HÀlsans stig in Lund. This circular route passes through Stadsparken, follows the Höje Ä river, crosses LundagÄrd and goes past the cathedral and the Botanical Garden. Before walking at Nöbbelövs mosse, check the seasonal ground conditions.
The HardebergaspÄret offers a different kind of route: this footpath and cycleway runs between Lund and Södra Sandby along a former railway line. For the most part, it is a wide, paved, two-lane cycle path with bicycle pumps; check on site whether the facilities are available. Those interested in longer hikes can also find about 70 km of the SkÄneleden within Lund Municipality. Before setting out, it is worth checking the latest trail conditions and services.
Wetlands, woodland and open landscapes
Several relatively rare bird species breed at Nöbbelövs mosse, including garganey and northern shoveler. Wildlife sightings vary by season. The HöjeÄdalen nature area between VÀrpinge and Sankt Lars also combines nature experiences with a play landscape: it has winding paths, hilly pastures, ponds rich in birdlife and Klimatleken. HöjeÄdalen is easiest to reach from VÀrpinge, KlostergÄrden or Sankt Larsparken. RinnebÀcksravinen is near VÀrpinge, in southwestern Lund, and is easy to reach by bicycle or bus; check the current bus service before travelling.
Skrylle Nature Reserve covers more than 500 hectares and was established both as a recreational area and to protect plants and animals. It has a 1.2 km wheelchair-accessible trail. Before visiting, check the latest accessibility information. With a little luck, you may spot roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar, woodpeckers, common buzzards and red kites in the forests.
Billebjer also brings together a variety of landscapes: species-rich heathland, lush deciduous woodland and archaeological remains. On a clear day, the summit offers views across the plain between Malmö and Lund. The former quarry is filled with water and is often used for swimming; check the swimming conditions on site. Dalby Söderskog National Park lies east of Lund and can be reached by car, public transport or bicycle. It is known as Swedenâs smallest national park in the Lund area. In spring, flowers take centre stage; in summer, it is the green foliage and intense birdsong. Check current public transport information before travelling.
Churches, museums and science
Lund Cathedral is around 900 years old, open daily and offers guided tours. Before your visit, check the latest information about access and tour times. Dalby Church tells a different story: it is considered the oldest surviving stone church in the Nordic countries and was built in 1059/1060 as a cathedral and bishopâs church, in connection with a new division of Danish dioceses.
Kulturen in Lund is a cultural history museum featuring historic houses from different periods, several exhibitions and programmes for different age groups. Skissernas Museum focuses on a collection of sketches and preparatory work for public art described as the worldâs largest. Lund Art Gallery presents new exhibitions every year featuring local and international artists, from established names to emerging voices. The exhibitions include guided tours, talks and creative workshops; the programme changes, so it is worth checking the latest dates.
Vattenhallen Science Center explores science and research through experiences and experiments closely connected to Lund University and the research community right next door. If you would like to take a break after visiting a museum or garden, the Botanical Garden offers a place to relax, with a garden, greenhouses, a shop and a café. Some facilities in the Botanical Garden may be temporarily closed or relocated. Lund Saluhall has several restaurants and Swedish products at its cheese, fish and chocolate stalls; check which offerings are currently available before your visit.
Planning your stay
Lund city centre is easy to reach by bus and train; there are also car parks within a reasonable distance for those arriving by car. Up-to-date information on connections and parking can help with your planning. Visit Lund provides official tourist information; several locations across the municipality have authorised InfoPoints offering in-person assistance. As their locations may change, it is advisable to check the latest information in advance.
When looking for a hotel in Lund, you can plan your stay around your main interests, whether thatâs city trails and cultural attractions or nature reserves and longer hiking routes. For trips to individual destinations, it is worth checking the best connection before setting off.
