If you’re looking for a focus for your stay, Lund offers several ways to explore culture and history. Archaeological collections, reconstructed living spaces, designs for public art and a 12th-century cathedral each offer a distinct perspective. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on archaeological finds and historical ways of life, art or architecture.

Museums: archaeological finds, living spaces and art

The Historiska museet is Skåne’s largest museum of archaeological finds, coins and ecclesiastical art. Its origins date back to the 18th century. Guided tours of the exhibitions are offered at 13:00 and 15:00; check the current schedule before you arrive. This makes it possible to plan a museum visit around a specific guided tour while keeping the different themes of the museums in view.

Skissernas Museum offers a different focus. It has the world’s largest collection of sketches, models and plans for Swedish and international public art. The focus here is on artistic designs for art in public spaces—a different approach from the archaeological finds at the Historiska museet.

Kulturen in Lund is a cultural history museum with historic buildings from different periods. The open-air museum includes six historic homes with reconstructed interiors: they date from the 18th century to the 1930s and represent different social classes. Guided tours of exhibitions or historic buildings are included in the admission price; advance booking may be required for special tours.

The cathedral and Lundagård: history in the cityscape

Lund Cathedral dates from the 12th century and also houses an astronomical clock. In the Middle Ages, Lund was a Nordic cultural centre. These historical connections make the cathedral a distinct focus alongside the museums’ collections and reconstructed living spaces. The cathedral and Kulturen are immediately beside or behind Lundagård Park, which serves as a landmark for finding your way around.

The cathedral offers free guided tours for individual visitors. As arrangements may change, check the current information before your visit. If you want to include guided tours in your plans, the options in Lund differ both by location and subject: the cathedral tours focus on architecture, while tours at Kulturen include exhibitions or historic buildings.

Kunskapsparken: plant diversity and a walking route

More than 3,000 trees and almost 400 different plant species grow in Kunskapsparken. Paved paths for pedestrians and cyclists form a loop about 2.5 kilometres long. The park therefore offers a clearly defined route to explore on foot or by bike; its approximate length gives you a guide for planning your route.

The MAX IV tram stop is near the entrance to Kunskapsparken from Utmarksvägen. If you plan to use this stop to find your way, check the latest transport information beforehand, as changes to services or construction work may affect access. The Visit Lund app offers guided walks and quizzes about Lund and its attractions. An interactive GPS map helps with navigation; the app also provides information about current events in Lund.

Cycle to Lund

Section 103 of Cykelleden Skåne begins at the white beaches of Lomma. After about 10 kilometres of easy riding eastwards, you reach Lund, with its atmospheric city centre, cathedral, museums and shops. This route information offers a different perspective from the approximately 2.5-kilometre loop in Kunskapsparken: one route leads from Lomma to Lund, while the other is a circuit within the park. Depending on your plans, you can distinguish between cycling to Lund and taking a shorter loop once you’re there.
