Uppåkra was a center of power during the Iron Age, where politics, religion and trade came together. In Staffanstorp, you can also encounter prehistoric wetlands, medieval churches and paths through the landscape. This lets you shape your trip around cultural history, nature or outdoor activities.

Archaeological History

The Uppåkra archaeological site covers 40 hectares. More than a thousand years ago, during the Iron Age, Uppåkra was a center of power where politics, religion and trade came together. Gullåkra bog reveals another aspect of prehistory: in prehistoric times, the wetland was sacred and served as a sacrificial site in the area.

A bronze lur was found at Gullåkra bog in the 1840s; it is among the oldest metal instruments in the Nordic countries. The Önsvala burial ground also adds to the picture of the Iron Age: it was used for almost 500 years and yielded extensive finds of pottery and metal. It mainly comprises graves from the 5th, 7th and 11th centuries.

Churches, Art and Craftsmanship

Tottarps kyrka dates from the 12th century. The nave of Nevishögs kyrka is from the same period; the church in Nevishög probably has Romanesque origins. Särslövs kyrka dates from the 13th century. By visiting several churches, you can compare architectural history from the 12th and 13th centuries. Tottarps kyrka is open in summer and in connection with activities at the church.

Staffanstorps konsthall is located in Medborgarhuset and presents inspiring art as well as a variety of events. It offers the public and schools guided tours of exhibitions, workshops and a creative studio. Nevishögs smedja offers another glimpse of local history: this remarkable village forge from the early 19th century is intact and fully operational.

Nature, Trails and Activities

Vallby bog is the municipality of Staffanstorp’s first nature reserve. It formed in a former glacial kettle hole, which was later overgrown with peat and then filled with water. The wetland is an important resting and breeding site for birds, including ducks.

The Beträdor offer the public a 13-kilometre walking trail between the fields. You are free to walk, jog or ride along the field edges. Most of the Beträdor are located between Tottarp and Djurslöv. For cycling, the Staffanstorp–Eslöv section of Cykelleden Skåne starts in Staffanstorp. It combines cycling through urban areas and agricultural landscapes with numerous castles and country estates. This gives you different options for outdoor activities, from trails on foot or horseback to a cycling route.

Swimming and Choosing a Base

Bråhögsbadet is the municipal swimming facility in the center of Staffanstorp. In winter, it has indoor pools; in summer, an outdoor pool. It also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family. Check the current opening status of the seasonal pools before your visit.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Staffanstorp, let the focus of your trip guide your choice: archaeological sites and churches, trails through the landscape or a visit to the swimming facility.
