Västra Torup: Walking Trails, Beech Forest and Farm History
Accommodation in Västra Torup
Västra Torup can be explored through several specific themes: trails by Torupasjön, an alpaca experience at Alpacka Ekofarm Hultet, a beech forest with a varied age structure, and the history of the local heritage farm in Lilla Tockarp. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the different options: a circular trail, activities that can be booked at the farm, a forest area and a recurring summer tradition each offer different points of interest. This way, you can decide whether a trail, a farm activity, nature or cultural history should be the main focus of your stay.
Hiking by Torupasjön
The Torupasjön circular trail in Västra Torup is 1.6 km long, goes around Torupasjön and is partially adapted for accessibility. This gives you both a specific trail length and information about the trail’s accessibility to help with your planning. If this is important to you, check the conditions that matter to you before your visit. A nature and cultural history hike around the lake can also be booked. You can therefore choose between a circular route with a stated length and a hike focused on a particular theme.
Alpaca trekking and other farm activities
At Alpacka Ekofarm Hultet in Västra Torup, alpaca trekking starts at the farm and follows winding forest trails. Guided tours of the farm can also be booked. This gives you different ways to visit the farm: trekking along its route and a guided farm tour. The arrangements for trekking may change, so check the latest information before making plans. The farm also has around eight bicycles in adult and children’s sizes available to rent. If you plan to rent one, check availability in advance.
Beech forest and landscape
The 2022 regional nature-value description characterizes Bokskog vid Västra Torup as a diverse, uneven-aged heath beech forest on a winding glacial esker more than 2 km long. Several old, large trees grow there, along with a rich lichen and moss flora. The landscape and the forest’s range of ages give this nature area several distinct aspects: the long, winding ridge forms the setting, while the trees and flora shape the character of the forest.
Building history and summer tradition in Lilla Tockarp
The main building in Lilla Tockarp was built in 1760 on the remains of earlier structures dating from the 1630s. The two dates refer to different building phases: the earlier traces predate the construction of the main building. Starting in 1979, the Västra Torup local heritage association, newly established at the time, took over and restored the local heritage farm complex. The building history of the main building and the later work on the complex as a whole are therefore separate chapters. A church service at the local heritage farm on Midsummer’s Day is a recurring summer tradition.
