Växjö brings together lakes, nature reserves and cultural attractions. The municipality has 250 lakes and 29 nature reserves. Nature is therefore a defining feature of the destination, while trails, museums and historic sites offer something for a range of interests.

Nature reserves and their varied landscapes

Helgö Nature Reserve covers 372 hectares, of which 182 hectares are land. Almost 200 bird species have been observed in Bokhultet Nature Reserve. Many trails there wind through beech forest, along lakes and across open pastures. This means visitors can enjoy both birdwatching and varied landscapes in one area.

Hissö is known for its beech forest, large old pines and diverse birdlife. It has several walking trails, designated barbecue areas and a dog beach. The landscape of Kronoberg Nature Reserve includes old, largely untouched forest, pastureland and a historic burial ground. Åsnen National Park is also among the nature experiences associated with Växjö.

Hiking and cycling on a variety of trails

Växjö runt is a well-signposted hiking and cycling route more than 40 kilometres long. It connects six lakes and eight nature reserves. Along the route are rest areas with bathing jetties, viewpoints, barbecue areas, shelters and other facilities. This makes it possible to consider the route not only in terms of its length, but also the places to pause along the way.

Sigfridsleden is about 88 kilometres long. It includes a 14-kilometre marked connection via the narrow-gauge railway to Evedal and Växjö Cathedral. The trail can also be used by mountain bike, provided cyclists show consideration for hikers and nature. For planning purposes, both the approximate total length and the specially marked connection are useful points of reference.

There is also a practical facility for everyday cycling: Växjö’s central bicycle parking garage has space for 62 bicycles, a charging point for electric bikes, and lockers for storing helmets and rainwear.
