Vemhån: Nature, Winter and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Vemhån
Vemhån can be organised for trip planning according to your interests and the season. Vadmalsstampen is outside the village in Sömlingsbäcken, while the outdoor fitness area is in the village centre. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowmobile trails, ice fishing and ice skating. Forests and summer pastures offer other ways to explore the area; there is a bathing area at Håsjön on the Veman. Consider whether you would like to focus your stay more on local history, exercise, winter activities or time by the water.
Vadmalsstampen: local history
Vadmalsstampen in Sömlingsbäcken is outside Vemhån and dates from 1867. After a fire, it was rebuilt and continued to be used in the traditional way until 1942. It is one of the very few surviving examples in the country. For travellers who want to include local history in their plans alongside nature and exercise, it is a cultural-historical destination in its own right. The three milestones—the year it was built, its reconstruction and the end of its traditional use—provide a clear timeline for the history of the site.
Winter activities on snow and ice
In winter, you can choose between activities based on their type and specific setting. The cross-country ski trail in Vemhån is 2.6 km long and leads out onto the lake ice. Its seasonal grooming may vary. Vemhån is also directly connected to extensive snowmobile trails. This means you can choose between a trail with a specified length and extensive routes for snowmobiles—two different ways to get active in winter. Ice fishing is a popular activity on the lakes around Vemhån. Check local ice conditions when going out on the lake and ice fishing. Ice skating on the village’s ice hockey rink is also one of the popular winter activities; seasonal operating conditions may vary.
Summer pastures, forests and exercise
The scenery is different in summer: Vemhån has numerous summer pastures where cows and horses graze. You can hike and explore the forests around the village. While the pastures offer seasonal scenery with grazing animals, the forests provide a setting for exercise and exploration. There is a well-equipped outdoor fitness area in the village centre. This gives you a choice between hikes in the surrounding area and workouts at a central location as different ways to spend active time outdoors.
Bathing area on the Veman
The Håsjön bathing area on the Veman in Vemhån has a sandy beach and bathing jetties. It is a clear option if you want to plan some time by the water. Unlike the forests and fitness area, the focus here is on swimming.
Wildlife watching and tunnbröd at Nybo Gård
At Nybo Gård, the arrangements differ: wildlife-watching trips are offered by advance booking. The bakery makes hard and soft tunnbröd using natural, mostly local ingredients and sells it in the farm shop; check whether the bread is available before your visit.
