Hede lies in Sonfjällsbygden, in the heart of Härjedalen, and is considered a starting point for hikes with views of the mountain landscape of Härjedalen. In the town, walking trails meet local history; fishing, golf and the Hede Skoterklubb area add to the leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Hede, you can plan your stay around which of these themes you want to focus on during your days there.

Walking trails starting from the town center

Three walking trails start from the center of Hede. They are marked with the difficulty levels green, blue and red. The colors help you compare the trails based on their stated ratings. One walking route follows the Ljusnan and returns along the same route. There are rest areas along it with tables, benches and a barbecue grill. So, when planning this riverside route, allow for the return journey along the same path; the rest areas offer places to take a break by the water.

Heading toward Hede Camping, parking for the walking trails is on the right-hand side by the fitness trail and playground.

Church and local history

The present-day Hede Church was built between 1770 and 1775. Right next to it stands a detached bell tower with an onion-shaped dome, dating from 1751. The tower is therefore older than the present church building. The church’s interior includes a local style variant known as Härjedalsrokoko.

The Sockenstugan stands at Hede hembygdsgård. The building was formerly a school and community hall; it is estimated to date from between 1850 and 1870. Today it serves as a weaving room. The Hede hembygdsgård heritage trail features wooden replicas of 18th-century milestones and original cast-iron milestones from the 19th century. If you plan to visit the trail, check its current condition in advance.

Local food culture is also part of the history of the Sockenstugan: flötgröt was prepared in its kitchen for celebrations. The dish is described as Härjedalen’s national dish.
