Olofsbo combines a long sandy beach with nature watching, cycling along the Kattegattleden and distinctive traces of local history. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can tailor your plans to your interests: swimming, birdwatching or learning about cultural history. The following topics offer some specific ideas.

Beach and cycling

Olofsbo Beach is long, sandy and child-friendly, with shallow water. This makes it a natural focal point for a stay where time by the water is important. Swimming conditions vary by season and should be taken into account when planning. On the Falkenberg–Varberg section of the Kattegattleden, Olofsbo is one of the beaches along the coast. Cyclists turn off the Kattegattleden 1 km north of Olofsbo and follow the signs for 1.5 km to the Morups tånge nature reserve. Check the route signs during your ride, as they may change.

Birdwatching in the nature reserve

Morups tånge is a nature reserve and a birdwatching spot. In late summer and autumn, you may see most of Sweden’s wader species there. The interests of beachgoers and birdwatchers may call for different travel dates: waders can be seen during these months, while swimming conditions at the beach vary by season.

Farms, the lighthouse and local history

Cultural sites include Staffens, Olofsbo’s local heritage and farmstead. This well-preserved Halland farm, enclosed by buildings, is protected as a historic building; its thatched roof is one of the largest in Sweden. Staffens opens every year on the first Sunday in July for an open day, and for visits during the Ecomuseum Days on the first weekend in August. If you plan to visit the farm, check the exact date before your trip.

Morups Tånge Lighthouse was built in 1841, stands 27 metres tall and still casts its light across the Kattegat. It has been unmanned since 1962. Olofsbo’s skateboard park is also one of the oldest surviving skateboard parks in the world. Local bathing history also includes the founding of the Olofsbo Havsbadsförening association, which set out to get beach life going. Alfred Bengtsson, Karl-Johans Gustav and Gustav i Olofsbäck opened the first kiosk on the beach.

Horse rides and beer tasting

Olofsbo Islandshästar offers rides on Icelandic horses to the beach or into the forest. If you plan a ride, check the booking details, which may change. Agerörs Kustbryggeri offers beer tastings at the brewery or in the orangery building by reservation. Tasting packages may also change, so check the details in advance.
