Las Rozas De Madrid combines historic buildings, natural areas and a wide range of leisure activities. When choosing where to stay, you might first consider whether you are mainly interested in cultural history, outdoor activities, events or a particular leisure attraction. Then compare the specific hotel location with the places you plan to visit and the transport options that suit you.

Historic buildings and cultural sites

Puente del Retamar was built between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Its seven semicircular arches are characteristic of its historic design; the bridge formed part of the Camino Real from Madrid to El Escorial. There are walking and cycling routes near the bridge. The area around the bridge is easy to access, well signposted and has free parking.

Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel dates from the first half of the 16th century and is considered the oldest and most distinctive building in the municipality of Las Rozas. Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Retamar is next to Dehesa de Navalcarbón and is dedicated to the patron saint of Las Rozas; her veneration dates back to the 14th century. Another historic landmark is a railway district that developed in the 20th century in connection with the expansion of rail transport and is now considered one of Spain’s best-preserved railway villages.

Museo de la Selección Española is dedicated to the history of the Spanish national football team over more than 100 years. Its exhibits also cover the under-21 team, the Olympic teams, the women’s team, and the futsal and beach soccer teams. A small railway museum displays historic locomotives and working models; AFEMAT organises free guided tours.

Landscape, trails and nature

Almost half of the municipality lies within Parque Regional de la Cuenca Alta del Manzanares. Parks, routes, livestock tracks, trails and wooded areas offer opportunities for walking, cycling, sports and relaxation. Centro de Medio Ambiente La Talaverona has urban gardens, an arboretum, educational trails, outdoor classrooms and composting areas, as well as spaces for workshops and educational activities. An accessible walk there passes through gardens, wooded areas and educational spaces.

In Dehesa de NavalcarbĂłn, part of Canal del Guadarrama has been designed as an artificial stream and can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The canal is a remnant of 18th-century engineering. A colony of cormorants can be observed year-round at the recreational waters of Embalse Molino.

Those interested in history outdoors can find around ten surviving forts and bunkers from the Spanish Civil War along the Bunkers de la Dehesa circular route. Sendero LR-09 Bunkers de la Dehesa is described as an easy circular route of around 1.9 kilometres, taking about 50 minutes, and is considered suitable for children. As seasonal conditions can affect the route, it is advisable to check locally before visiting.
