Arroyomolinos offers several distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: the Torreón, the history of its mills, the Senda Mágica nature trail and festivals such as El Corpus Christi. There are also green spaces and parks. This lets you connect your search for a hotel in Arroyomolinos with the specific reason for your trip.

Cultural history and mills

The Torreón de Arroyomolinos is a building in the Gothic Mudéjar style. Since 22 April 1949, it has been protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of castle. The Torreón was restored in 2003 and is now part of the network of archaeological sites open to visitors in the Autonomous Community of Madrid. Its place in local history is defined by its architectural classification, protected status and subsequent restoration. If you would like to visit the Torreón, check the latest visitor information in advance.

The history of the mills offers another perspective on the local heritage. Only the remains of five historic water mills survive: four on the north bank of the Torreón, and the fifth to the south, with its original weir. The Ruta de los Molinos del río Guadarrama links five former grain mills in Arroyomolinos: Molino del Caño, Molino de las Isabelas, Molino Perdido, Molino Doble and Molino Valdefuentes. The Torreón is a single building, whereas the route connects several sites of former grain mills.

Molino Doble, also known as Molino del Río, is a hydraulic mill of the double-bucket type, with an aqueduct, two water basins and two millstones. The Cordel de Arroyomolinos also contains archaeological remains of medieval Mudéjar-style mills.

Trails and green spaces

The Senda Mágica is a 1.5-kilometre trail along a stream. It is very easy to walk, suitable for children and even accessible with a stroller. A magical story featuring fairies, gnomes, trolls and other mythical creatures accompanies the trail and raises awareness of environmental protection. The route thus combines a clearly defined length with a storytelling approach to environmental issues.

Arroyomolinos has 120 hectares of green spaces and seven urban parks, where visitors can take part in a variety of activities. When planning your visit, you can compare the 1.5-kilometre Senda Mágica with the diverse activities available in the parks.

Festivals and getting there

El Corpus Christi is Arroyomolinos’s most important festival; the celebrations include events that are part of the community’s traditions. The Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Paz is celebrated on the last weekend in January and preserves the tradition of sharing products from the home slaughter. Individual events may vary. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the dates and specific events in advance.

For car travel, the Autovía del Suroeste (A-5) is Arroyomolinos’s main road connection and links Madrid with Badajoz. Road conditions can change, so check them before setting off.
