Local History and Culture
The Fuente Nueva de Miraflores de la Sierra was built in 1791 in the Baroque style from dressed granite blocks. Another fountain monument on Ctra. de Rascafría is dedicated to Antonio Robledo Palomino, also known as “El Tío Francachela.” The Fuente de los Borricos formerly served as a resting place for forestry workers and their animals on their way back from work.
The Iglesia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora is an example of Late Gothic architecture and is associated with the House of Infantado. Traces of Vicente Aleixandre’s literary legacy can be found on the Paseo Aleixandrino: The walking route begins at Plaza de España and follows his footsteps through the town center. The Álamo installation is a bronze replica of Miraflores de la Sierra’s famous hundred-year-old poplar; Aleixandre’s poem “El Álamo” can be read around the replica.
The Gruta de Nuestra Señora de Begoña has been recognized by the Comunidad de Madrid as a place of tourist interest. Built outdoors around a natural rock, the chapel includes an altar, gardens, ponds and sculptural groups. Visitor arrangements may change; check current information if you are planning a visit.
The ruins of the Molino de Salustiano can be reached via the restored bridge over the Miraflores River and are connected with the area’s former milling activity. As the bridge’s condition may change, check the latest information before visiting. The Teatro Auditorio Centro de Arte Villa de Miraflores hosts cultural events. Theater performances, concerts, dance performances, recitals, talks and conferences take place there throughout the year; the program changes over time.
