Fuenlabrada: Agricultural Landscape and Urban Culture
Accommodation in Fuenlabrada
Fuenlabrada brings together the peri-urban agricultural landscape of Parque Agrario with urban art, cultural heritage, and city leisure spots. You can choose different focuses for your stay: spending time outdoors, viewing murals, or exploring local history. The activities also vary in format—from a route through the agricultural landscape to guided tours and recurring cultural events.
Parque Agrario and Walks
Parque Agrario de Fuenlabrada works to preserve and strengthen peri-urban agriculture and its agricultural landscape. An extensive network of paths and livestock tracks makes it possible to experience nature and this farming environment. This gives the area a different character from the art and cultural venues in the city.
A route through Parque Agrario is five kilometres long, takes about 60 minutes on foot, and is classified as easy. Its length, approximate walking time, and difficulty level provide a clear framework for planning your day. The time estimate refers to walking; allow additional time if you plan to do other things.
Murals in the Urban Landscape
The Museo de Arte Urbano de Fuenlabrada (MAUF) is an open-air museum where building façades serve as canvases for urban art. Its collection includes more than thirty murals distributed throughout Fuenlabrada. The focus of MAUF is therefore art on façades rather than a single exhibition collection in one space.
The city council organises a 90-minute guided tour of the MAUF collection on the last Sunday of every month. Compared with the agricultural route, which takes about an hour, the tour is the longer of the two activities with a specified duration. If you want to plan around this date, check the tour date in advance.
Church, Heritage, and Tradition
The Iglesia de San Esteban Protomártir features an 18th-century Churrigueresque altarpiece. The process to designate the church as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) was initiated on 5 April 1983. The altarpiece and the date of the process are two distinct historical points of reference. The Fuente de los Cuatro Caños is also included in Fuenlabrada’s catalogue of protected assets.
The traditional procession of the SantĂsimo Cristo de la Misericordia takes place every year, begins at the Iglesia de San Esteban Protomártir, and is free to attend. The event combines a recurring religious custom with a specific starting point. If you would like to experience the procession, check the dates before your visit.
Green Space and Local Produce
Centro Municipal La Pollina is a municipal green and leisure area of almost three hectares for the whole community, especially children and young people. Its activities include environmental, educational, leisure, and recreation programmes; individual offerings may change. The site offers a different kind of outdoor experience from the paths and livestock tracks of Parque Agrario.
The municipal programme “Cómete Fuenlabrada” offers another glimpse of local agriculture. It uses public spaces at changing locations as sales points for freshly harvested local vegetables, including chard, cauliflower, potatoes, and celery. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider the region’s produce alongside its landscapes and walks.
Monthly Cultural Activities
Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente (CEART) offers a free family activity on the second Sunday of every month. It begins with a guided tour of the main exhibition, after which participants take part in an art activity themselves. This format differs from the 90-minute MAUF tour: the focus here is on a family activity and hands-on art-making.
The monthly events also follow different schedules: the CEART activity is held on the second Sunday, while the MAUF tour takes place on the last Sunday. If either activity is important to your stay, check the date for your chosen month in advance.
