La Selva del Camp offers different ways to experience a stay: local history, traditional crafts, waterways and recurring festivals. These themes provide various starting points for planning your trip according to your interests.

Waterways and historic water use

At Les Tres AigĂĽes, the Riera de la Selva rises where the Font Major, Salt and Gatellar gorges meet. The CamĂ del Rec follows a historic watercourse that supplied water to La Selva del Camp and the grain mills along its route. The two sites have different points of focus: Les Tres AigĂĽes is about the meeting of the gorges, while the CamĂ del Rec is about the former water supply for the town and its mills.

This offers a way to understand the water landscape both through its origins and its use. Those interested in the history of routes and water supply will find a direct connection to the former milling economy on the CamĂ del Rec; the Riera, by contrast, points to the source and its tributaries.

Castle, country house and architectural history

Castell de la Selva was built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries and served as a residence for the Paborden for a time. Following the completion of its second restoration phase in 2011, it became a multifunctional municipal space. Its construction period, temporary residential function and later municipal use represent different chapters in its history.

The Convent de Sant Agustí was founded in 1598 on the initiative of the municipality and built with the help of donations, including one from Rafael Ripollès. L’Hort d’Iglésies is a historic country house built by Josep Iglesias at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside, it preserves a collection of paintings depicting various scenes from classical mythology. The two sites therefore offer different historical points of interest: the convent’s founding story and the country house’s connection to its builder and art collection.

The construction history of the Sant Andreu church can also be placed in its historical context: rebuilding began on 10 November 1582. Pere Blai undertook to complete it within eight years for 8,000 pounds. Work probably continued until 1686; the façade remained unfinished. The long construction period and the date of 1686, explicitly described as probable, go together, while the unfinished façade remains a distinct feature of the building.

Pottery and festivals throughout the year

At the Centre d’Interpretació dels Ollers: Ca l’Hipòlit, visitors can see the original workshop and an exhibition on the historical development of pottery in La Selva del Camp. The site offers both a look at the workshop itself and an insight into the history of local crafts.

At the beginning of February, La Selva del Camp celebrates Carnival with the arrival of King Carnestoltes. The main event is a parade on Saturday afternoon, where groups, comparsas and penyes present their floats and costumes. Els Tres Tombs is a traditional festival held at the beginning of the year, attended by horses and horse-drawn teams from all parts of the PaĂŻsos Catalans. The two festivals have different focuses: Carnival centres on the parade, floats and costumes, while Els Tres Tombs focuses on horses and horse-drawn teams. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the specific event date in advance.
