Trzebnicki: Cycling Routes and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Trzebnicki
The Trzebnica Hills are among the particularly appealing places in Trzebnicki County. To the north, its lowland areas extend into the broad, flat Barycz Valley. Together with numerous cycling routes and forests, the valley is one of the county’s highlighted natural areas and visitor destinations. The forests offer an exceptional variety of flora and fauna, as well as opportunities to enjoy the landscape and relax.
By bike and on foot
The Trzebnica Cycling Loop passes through every municipality in Trzebnicki County. There are also 30 cycling routes in the area. The loop connects all the municipalities along its route; the figure refers to the total number of cycling routes in the county. As this number may change as the route network develops, check locally for the latest information before setting out.
Prepared hiking routes are available and are considered safe and scenic. Check the conditions of each route before hiking, just as you would before cycling. This will help you plan your day around your chosen activity and the current trail conditions, without treating cycling and hiking routes as interchangeable.
History in Trzebnica and Żmigród
The Basilica of St Hedwig in Trzebnica is considered the oldest sanctuary in Silesia and is one of the important necropolises of the Silesian Piasts. The International Shrine of St Hedwig of Silesia is located on the European Cistercian Route. Trzebnica thus brings together the basilica’s religious significance and its place on a route that extends beyond the region.
Żmigród is home to the historic Baszta, built in the 14th century as part of the town’s defensive system. It complements Trzebnica’s religious history with a testament to the history of urban defences.
Park and history in Bagno
The castle-and-park complex in Bagno includes an English-style park with a philosopher’s pavilion, a wooden chapel and a stone grotto. Visits are possible in everyday conditions, taking the site’s particular features into account; check access before you arrive. The park also offers the “From the History of the Monastery in Bagno” discovery experience. Check its availability before your trip.
The archaeological site in Bagno also has a story of its own: it is believed to be a late medieval fortification and became a memorial to the landowner’s son in the 20th century. A description from 2020 mentions a forest path and a signpost for access. Check local conditions before your visit.
Visiting and getting around
The ponds in Trzebnica have paved paths, designated parking areas, illuminated walkways, benches, an amphitheatre and graduation towers. Check the facilities before your visit.
The route to Bagno is described as following a regional road from Oborniki ĹšlÄ…skie towards Skokowa. Rail passengers should get off at Osola station and continue via Osolina to Bagno. Check transport connections and the route before your trip.
Trzebnica’s Winna Góra Park has educational trails that include, among other things, the archaeological site. The first stage of construction was completed in 2019. Check current trail conditions locally.
Another historical landmark is the dam in Zawonia, Cielętniki and Tarnowiec. It is a well-preserved remnant of the hydrotechnical works of the Cistercian nuns from Trzebnica, who owned these areas for almost 600 years.
Culture in the wider destination of Lower Silesia
The Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica form part of Lower Silesia’s distinct cultural context. Built in the mid-17th century under the terms of the Peace of Westphalia, they were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.
