Zawonia offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the Parish Church of St. Hedwig of Silesia is an example of sacred architecture, a former Protestant church was converted into a cultural center, and traces of an old oval village layout have been preserved. The town also lies at the foot of the foothills of the Wzgórza Trzebnickie and has a green hiking trail running through Zawonia to Pęciszów. If you are looking for a hotel in Zawonia, you can focus on local themes according to your interests: church architecture and furnishings, cultural activities, scenery or hiking.

Church and furnishings

The Parish Church of St. Hedwig of Silesia is a single-nave brick Baroque church and is listed in the register of monuments. “Single-nave” describes the layout of the church interior; “brick” identifies its construction method. Baroque refers to the stylistic classification of the building, while the interior is considered Late Baroque. An image of Saint Hedwig is located on the main altar; the altar’s creator is unknown. This offers several different aspects to consider: the single-nave structure, the style of the interior and the specific subject of the image. The church can therefore be understood through its layout, style and furnishings, rather than treating Baroque and Late Baroque as interchangeable terms.

Culture in repurposed buildings

Another historical landmark is the former Protestant church at Szkolna 1. It was converted into the headquarters of the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury. Activities to develop manual, vocal, photographic and dance skills are prepared for all age groups in the restored former church. These areas are quite distinct: they range from crafts to voice and photography to dance. Thus, alongside the building’s history, there is also a cultural venue offering creative activities. Check the current program of the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury before visiting if you would like to include its activities in your travel plans.

The Zielona Strefa Aktywności in Zawonia offers another kind of leisure and culture. It is a leisure, sports and cultural venue established on the site of a former swimming pool. The site’s former use as a swimming pool is part of its history; the Strefa is now defined as a place for leisure, sports and culture. It should therefore not be seen solely as a sports venue: leisure and culture are also explicitly part of its character. Compared with the Parish Church, with its sacred architecture, and the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury, with its creative activities, it offers another distinct perspective on local themes.

Landscape, village layout and hiking trail

Zawonia lies at the foot of the foothills of the Wzgórza Trzebnickie. Traces of an old oval village layout have also been preserved. The landscape and settlement layout offer two different scales for viewing the town: its location places Zawonia in its surroundings, while the oval traces draw attention to the village’s earlier shape. This history complements the view of individual buildings with a look at the form of the village itself.

A green hiking trail runs through Zawonia from Zawonia to Pęciszów. Hiking is therefore another point of interest, alongside church architecture, culture and the historic village layout. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you would rather focus on architecture and local history or make the hiking trail your main activity. The location at the foot of the foothills of the Wzgórza Trzebnickie and the trail route each offer a different connection to the surrounding area: one through the landscape, the other through a named hiking route.
