Accommodation in Prusice
With its town hall, funerary chapel, St. Jadwiga’s Stone and recurring events, Prusice offers several specific themes for a stay. If you’re looking for a hotel in Prusice, your main area of interest can guide your travel plans: architectural history and sacred art sit alongside summer events and a market held annually at Easter.
Town hall: Gothic features and Renaissance renovation
The town hall in Prusice has Gothic features and volute gables dating from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. After a fire in 1529, it was renovated in the Renaissance style. This means that earlier Gothic forms and later alterations can be seen side by side on the same building. The volute gables are a striking architectural detail: the term refers to gable shapes with volute-like, curled contours. Together with the sequence of dates, they create a contrast between the building’s earlier appearance and its renovation after the fire.
The Renaissance tower is 39 metres high; 142 steps lead to the top, where it offers panoramic views over the town and its surroundings. The tower is currently closed to visitors for technical reasons. If you’re considering visiting the tower during your trip, check in advance whether it has reopened.
Baroque funerary chapel in the parish church
The funerary chapel of Count Melchior von Hatzfeld is located in the parish church of St James the Apostle in Prusice. It is considered one of the finest works of 17th-century “Golden Baroque” in Poland. The chapel thus combines a specific location with an art-historical distinction. For travellers interested in sacred art, it offers a cultural highlight in its own right, alongside the town hall’s architectural history.
St. Jadwiga’s Stone and the legend
St. Jadwiga’s Stone, a granite erratic boulder with two depressions, lies on Aleja Lipowa. The larger one measures 10 × 17 cm and is 3–8 cm deep; it resembles a footprint. Beside it is an irregular depression measuring 2.5 cm in diameter. According to legend, the impressions were made by St. Jadwiga and her dog’s paw. The stone thus brings together measurable features and their traditional interpretation: one depression resembles a foot, while the legend gives both impressions a story.
Summer events and Easter market
Dni Prusic is held regularly in summer on the market square. It includes cultural and sporting activities, dance events, performances by local groups, and concerts by popular artists. The programme therefore covers a range of event types, combining culture and sport.
The Easter market is also held on the market square every year around Easter. By contrast, Dni Prusic takes place in summer, while the Easter market offers an event around the Easter holiday. The two events provide different dates to consider if you’d like to plan your trip around a market or programme of events. Check the specific event dates before your trip.
