The water sports equipment rental service in Miasteczko Portowe in Uraz on the Oder offers kayaks, sailboats, motorboats, and small and large pedal boats. This gives you a choice of different types of watercraft, from kayaks and sailboats to motorboats and pedal boats. Available equipment may change, so check the selection before your visit.

Uraz Castle: architecture and viewing today

Following modernizations in the 15th century, Uraz Castle acquired the layout of an equilateral triangle and was surrounded by a moat. Its triangular ground plan is a distinctive feature of its architectural history. Today, the castle is privately owned and can be viewed from behind the fence. If you are planning to see the castle, check the current access arrangements.

Church and historic buildings around the market square

The late Baroque Church of St. Michael the Archangel stands in Uraz’s market square. The present building was constructed between 1750 and 1789. Beside the church is a Lourdes grotto built from fieldstones. The church and grotto thus offer two distinct architectural points of interest in the same place.

The market square is also home to a former town hall dating from the late 19th century, which was used as a school after the war. A Protestant church was also part of the square’s history: it had stood there since 1742 and was destroyed in 1945. A former rectory dating from the early 20th century has survived. Together, these buildings and their history illustrate different periods of construction and use of the market square.

The settlement of Uraz was first mentioned in 1203. At that time, Henry the Bearded assigned income from the ducal tavern in Uraz to the Cistercian convent. In the 13th century, a castellany in a bend of the Oder near Uraz guarded the river crossing. The town’s early history is therefore linked both to the ducal tavern and to a protected crossing over the Oder.

Recreation by the small lake

Uraz has a recreation area by a small lake, with a shelter, public barbecue spots and a beach volleyball court. The facilities offer different ways to spend time outdoors: you can barbecue, play volleyball or use the shelter. Since the condition of the facilities may depend on local maintenance, check on it if you are specifically planning to visit the area.
