Nowa Morawa between the valley and winter activities

Nowa Morawa lies in a narrow, deep valley along the upper reaches of the Morawka. The valley gives the village a distinct landscape setting. Different interests come together when planning a trip: cross-country skiing on a loop route and a designated section, a drag lift, and historic landmarks in the surrounding area. Depending on whether you are looking for activities in the snow or historic sites, different aspects will take priority.

Cross-country skiing: loop route and section

Cross-country ski route No. 10 starts in Nowa Morawa and follows a 22-kilometre loop via Droga Marianny and Przełęcz Sucha, then via Wielkie Rozdroże to the summit of Czernica and back to Nowa Morawa. It is considered difficult; steep climbs and descents are part of its description. Snow conditions vary by season and should be taken into account when planning.

A 3.9-kilometre section of the route runs from Nowa Morawa via Droga Marianny to Przełęcz Sucha. This section is marked with two difficulty ratings for the ascent and three for the descent. The two options therefore differ not only in length: separate ratings are given for the section’s ascent and descent, while the entire loop is considered difficult. The loop is considerably longer than the section.

A drag lift is located on the eastern slope of Stromy (808 m), the higher of the two elevations of Zawada. Its operation may vary by season. While the route and its difficulty are the main considerations for cross-country skiing, the lift is associated with a specifically named slope. These are different winter activities to consider when planning a trip.

Historic landmarks in the surrounding area

Szwedzkie Szańce are the scant remains of earthworks attributed to Swedish troops from the Thirty Years’ War. They lie on a ridge west of Nowa Morawa, south of Przełęcz Staromorawska and above Droga Staromorawska.

Góra Oliwna offers another historic landmark: a group of 19th-century stone sculptures depicting the sleeping apostles. It is located on a hill between Nowa Morawa and Kamienica. The two sites offer different connections to the past: Szwedzkie Szańce is associated with military history and attributed to Swedish troops; Góra Oliwna features stone depictions of apostles from the 19th century.

Woodland rest area at the edge of the village

At the edge of Nowa Morawa, beside the road towards the border crossing at Przełęcz Płoszczyna, there is a woodland rest area with a covered shelter and barbecue area. If you plan to stop there for a break, check its condition before visiting.
