Goworów is a notable linear village along the Goworówka stream and at the foot of the Śnieżnik Massif. The village lies at an altitude of 460 to 600 metres; the boundary of the Śnieżnicki Park Krajobrazowy Landscape Park also runs through Goworów. The village layout and location provide two concrete points of reference for getting to know the destination. “Linear village” describes the settlement pattern of a place as a whole, not an individual building.

Architecture and local history

In the Śnieżnik Massif area, Goworów is the largest rural ensemble of masonry monuments. The village also has features characteristic of the Czech-Silesian border region. The term “ensemble” draws attention to a group of buildings and their construction, while the border-region connection places their architectural character in context. This makes it possible to consider the built heritage both in a broader context and through individual examples.

One specific example in the village is the branch church of St Peter and St Paul. It is considered an example of modern formal solutions in the architecture of rural churches in the Kłodzko Land. The church thus adds an individual architectural perspective to the wider ensemble: the focus here is on formal solutions within the region’s rural church architecture.

The Izba Pamięci Tkactwa is dedicated to the history of local weaving. Its collection includes objects connected with this subject, including historic spinning wheels. Alongside architecture, a specific craft thus also features in the village’s history. If you are planning to visit the Izba, check in advance whether a visit is possible and under what conditions.

Goworów’s development as a summer resort is also part of its history. In the second half of the 19th century, the village became a well-known summer resort, and inns were built at the time. Visitors went to the Pątnik viewpoint, where there was a cross and a summerhouse during that period. The summer resort, its inns and visits to Pątnik thus describe a historical visitor’s perspective on the village.
