Dąbrówka: History, Park and Trails
Accommodation in Dąbrówka
Dąbrówka offers a range of topics, from park history and archaeological traces to opportunities for running, cycling and Nordic walking. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on local history or physical activity.
Park History and Memorial Sites
The historic park in Dąbrówka is one of the oldest parks in the area around Poznań; its origins date back to around 1800. The park contains a former German palace dating from the early 20th century. The park’s history and the building thus represent different periods.
A memorial plaque commemorates the von Tempelhoff family, who once owned the estates in Dąbrówka. It was unveiled on 17 October 2017 in the palace park, on a boulder beside the ruins of a neo-Gothic chapel. Both a historic building and a later memorial are therefore among the park’s notable features.
The park is open to residents and serves as a place for recreation. Check local conditions before visiting.
Hillforts and Local History
The documented hillforts along the Wirynka differ in their position on the riverbank, shape and period. A concave hillfort stood on the right bank and was dated to the 5th to 8th centuries; it no longer exists. Near Dąbrówka, by contrast, the left bank is home to heavily damaged remains of a conical hillfort dating from the 9th to 13th centuries. The two sites should therefore not be understood as one and the same structure.
A publicly accessible outdoor model depicts a Slavic hillfort in Dąbrówka. It is located near Malinowa Street, beside the primary school and the branch of the municipal library. The hillfort depicted flourished in the 9th and 10th centuries, before the construction of the Piast castle in Poznań. The model thus offers a tangible connection to a period that is also important to the region’s early history.
The educational trail on Parkowa Street has three information boards about the history of the area. Topics range from the tribal hillfort to the Second World War and the present day. If you are interested in how the area has changed over time, the boards trace a path from early fortifications to more recent historical periods.
Routes and Outdoor Activities
The forests around Dąbrówka, Palędzie and Zakrzewo have publicly accessible routes for running, cycling and Nordic walking. These three activities offer different ways to spend time outdoors, without requiring you to use the same route or maintain a particular pace.
The pump track in Dąbrówka is a purpose-built circuit for serviceable BMX, dirt/slope or MTB sports bikes. At least one brake is required, and the circuit can be ridden in either direction. If you are planning to bring your own bike, the suitable bike types, brake requirement and direction of travel are all important details.
The Dąbrówka Crown Run route includes a marked 10 km running course and a marked 7.5 km Nordic walking course. Each distance is clearly assigned to its respective activity. If you are including the run in your travel plans, check dates and event details with the organizer.
