Owińska: Monastery, Park and Special Activities

Monastery History and St Nicholas Church

St Nicholas Church is the oldest historic building in the town and is among the oldest and most valuable religious buildings in Poznań County. This gives it particular significance both for the town’s history and in the regional context. The Cistercian monastery has its own architectural history: after a partial fire on Good Friday in 1720, Pompeo Ferrari completed the reconstruction. The monastery was renovated to designs by Jan Catenazzi; 13th-century walls may have been used in the process. The fire, reconstruction and reference to potentially older walls offer different starting points for exploring the monastery’s history.

von Treskow Palace and Its Landscape Park

The attribution of the design of von Treskow Palace is also uncertain. The design was probably created by Berlin architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Franciszek Catel; according to more recent research, David Gilly may have been the architect. The landscape park at the palace was laid out in the early 19th century to a design by Peter Joseph Lenné, who was director of the gardens in Berlin for many years. The park includes a pond, mature trees and deciduous trees protected as natural monuments. Two distinct themes therefore come together at the palace: the open question of architectural authorship and the design of the parkland. Educational Activities and Recreation

Educational activities for students at the Special Education Centre for Blind Children take place daily in the Park Orientacji Przestrzennej. Tourist visits and visits by organised groups are possible at set times or by prior reservation. If you are planning a visit, take this time or reservation requirement into account. The Aromatorium – Biblioteka Zapachów opened on 24 February 2023 at the Special Education Centre for Blind Children in Owińska.

There is a water-ski and wakeboard lift for water sports. It is 160 metres long and allows speeds of over 40 km/h; check with the operator for current opening details. The AKWEN Tropicana outdoor swimming pool operates seasonally and has two swimming areas for swimmers and non-swimmers. The water in the non-swimmer area is up to 120 centimetres deep. The water activities therefore differ considerably: the lift focuses on water skiing and wakeboarding, while the outdoor pool has separate swimming areas. A foot and cycle bridge crosses the Warta in Owińska. It is a distinct feature of the local infrastructure alongside the town’s architectural history, parkland and recreational activities.
