Brzoza: Manor House, Park and Railway History
Accommodation in Brzoza
Planned walking and cycling paths are also in the works. This means you can choose your destination based on whether architectural history, transport history or cycling is particularly important to your stay.
Manor House and Railway Past
The manor house in Brzoza was built around 1900. A four-column portico stands in front of its entrance. The layout of the manor complex has also been largely preserved, although the appearance and use of the buildings have changed slightly. Both a distinctive architectural detail and the layout of the complex are therefore historical points of interest in the village.
The history of the Krotoszyńska Kolej Dojazdowa offers a glimpse into another period. Brzoza had a stop on the decommissioned Krotoszyn–Pleszew section; the line was closed on 12 January 1986. The construction of the manor house around 1900 and the end of the railway section in 1986 represent different chapters in the village’s history: the architectural history of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and a railway connection that no longer exists.
Park and Planned Paths
A leisure centre has been established in the park in Brzoza. There are also two ponds northwest of the manor house: one in the park and the other immediately beside its western boundary. Together with the manor house, the park and ponds offer another focal point for exploring the village.
The individual walking and cycling path projects should be distinguished. A project description dated 7 June 2021 proposed a 3,127-metre cycling path section from Brzoza to Nowy Folwark, which was intended to connect existing sections. Another project proposed a walking and cycling path along county road 4331P on the Nowy Folwark–Bożacin–Brzoza route. A project description dated 21 June 2021 placed the planned walking and cycling path starting in Brzoza on the “Śladami Bany” route. This route was intended to connect Krotoszyn with Rozdrażew and follow the former route of the Krotoszyńska Kolej Dojazdowa. If you plan to cycle during your trip, check the current status of the planned sections in advance.
More Places to Visit in the Wider Krotoszyn Destination
The wider Krotoszyn destination offers more cultural attractions and routes. The red “Krotoszyn–Baszków” hiking trail connects Krotoszyn and Baszków over 15.3 km. For cycling, the 44.1 km black “Wokół Krotoszyna” route and the 39.3 km green “Krotoszyńskie Dąbrowy” route are marked. This makes it easy to distinguish between hiking and cycling based on the type of route and its stated length.
The Hieronim Ławniczak Regional Museum’s permanent exhibition features more than 1,300 objects relating to archaeology, local folk culture and regional art. Several times a year, it hosts temporary exhibitions on historical, artistic, natural history and regional themes. Krotoszyn also has further architectural landmarks: Krotoszanka is the oldest surviving house there, a wooden arcade house dating from the second half of the 18th century. The town hall was built around 1689 to replace an earlier wooden building.
