Discover Czarnków on the Noteć
Accommodation in Czarnków
If you’re looking for a hotel in Czarnków, you can plan your trip around what you want your stay to focus on: the Noteć and its riverside routes, the town’s history, or an event date. The Noteć is the town’s most prominent natural feature. A kayaking trip, promenade and cycling route each offer a different perspective on the river landscape; historic sites and recreational areas complete the picture.
Routes and the river landscape
A kayaking trip on the Noteć can start at Czarnków Marina. The landing stage is near the town centre, in the river valley landscape. This provides a specific starting point for a trip on the water. On land, the promenade along the Noteć in Czarnków continues into a cycling route alongside the river. This cycling route is part of the larger Nadnotecka Cyklostrada network.
For planning purposes, the riverside routes are easy to distinguish from a hiking trail: the kayaking trip follows the Noteć, the promenade and cycling route run alongside the river, while the blue hiking trail leads from Czarnków to Goraj. It is 9 km long. This gives you a choice of different activities and a specific destination, without combining them into a single route.
Events as a reason to travel
Dni Ziemi Czarnkowskiej is an annual week-long festival featuring music, dance, art and entertainment. If you’d like to combine your stay with a festival, you can take this period into account when planning. The mix of different programme areas makes the festival more than just a single performance.
Another occasion is Dzień Spieczonego Bliźniaka. The event takes place every year on the last Saturday in August and brings together twins, triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, their families and friends from all over Poland and from abroad. Its fixed date on the last Saturday in August distinguishes it from the week-long festival. Check the event dates before planning your trip.
History in the townscape
The present-day Late Gothic parish church of St. Mary Magdalene was built from 1580 to 1586 on the initiative of the Czarnkowski family, of the Nałęcz coat of arms. The Czarnkowski Bridge also connects past and present: it remains an active road crossing over the Noteć, linking the two banks and thus two districts, and is considered one of Czarnków’s most valuable engineering monuments.
An authentic T-34 tank stands on Kościuszki Street as a memorial to the events of 1945 and the town’s wartime history. The former “Pod Grzybkiem” ski jump is also a well-known landmark. The last competitions there took place more than half a century ago; the former jump nevertheless remains one of Czarnków’s best-known symbols.
The Muzeum Ziemi Czarnkowskiej is housed in a restored former Prussian school building dating from the late 19th century. The surviving buildings of the historic brewery recall the town’s brewing tradition, whose history goes back even further than these structures. Together, these places represent different historical periods, from Late Gothic architecture and engineering monuments to traces of the town’s commercial history.
Leisure and local experiences
At the green space called Park im. Stanisława Staszica, visitors can go for a walk, linger by the fountain, rest in the shade of the trees and spend time with family. A quest exploring Czarnków’s natural assets starts in the town park at the salt graduation tower complex. The park thus combines relaxation in green surroundings with a starting point for discovering the town’s natural assets.
The skatepark has ramps, run-ups and technical features for practising basic manoeuvres and advanced tricks. The townscape thus offers a wide variety of activities: walks and breaks in the park, practice at the skatepark, and routes on foot, by bike or on the water.
Agro-Targi also offer something different: natural foods produced by local producers are available there. This gives travellers a choice between riverside scenery and activities, town history, events and locally focused offerings.
