Discover Halderberge: Heritage, Nature and Active Experiences
Accommodation in Halderberge
Halderberge invites you to include sacred architecture, museum collections, gardens and outdoor activities in your travel plans. In Oudenbosch, the options range from a basilica with access to the dome platform to a former monastery garden. Elsewhere, wetlands, water-based fun and adventure activities shape the choices. You can tailor your stay to culture, nature or activity.
Cultural history in Oudenbosch and Oud Gastel
The Basilica of Saints Agatha and Barbara in Oudenbosch offers a tangible insight into religious architectural history: visitors can climb 144 steps to the gallery platform at the base of the dome. Access arrangements may vary during services or maintenance work; check the conditions for your visit.
The Oudenbosch Museum of Natural History and Ethnology presents collections covering natural history, ethnography, geology and archaeology. These four subject areas give the museum visit distinct areas of focus, while the basilica draws attention to religious architecture.
The Oudenbosch Arboretum covers about four hectares and has an extensive collection of the genus Aesculus. As a former monastery garden, it is also part of Oudenbosch’s religious heritage. Here, gardens and history come together in one place.
Since December 2025, KunstHalderberge has added to the attractions in the centre of Oudenbosch. It offers rotating exhibitions, art projects, workshops and courses. The programme and opening arrangements may change. A guided walking tour of the town starting in Oudenbosch passes cultural and religious heritage sites and lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. Tour formats and durations may vary seasonally.
In Oud Gastel, the tower of Laurentiuskerk dates from the 15th century; the nave was rebuilt in 1906. Mastboomhuis was built in 1874 on the commission of Petrus Mastboom. Both buildings add different historical periods to the area’s story.
Bovendonk is a former seminary complex. In autumn 1895, Petrus J.H. (Pierre) Cuypers was commissioned to design a new monastery; a new Neo-Gothic building was subsequently constructed. This architectural history offers another insight into monastery architecture.
Gardens, landscapes and cycling routes
Het Gastels Laag lies southwest of the built-up area of Oudenbosch, in the municipality of Halderberge. The site covers 23 hectares and includes mown grassland, blue moor-grass meadows and an old alder carr. An initial survey recorded 180 flower and plant species there, including rare species on the Red List. Its varied habitats and plant diversity give the area a distinctive landscape character.
An extensive cycling junction network lets you create your own routes through forests, along rivers and across village squares. The network and its signposting may be updated, so it is worth checking the current route layout when planning a specific cycling trip.
Water, adventure and skydiving
Waterspeelpark Splesj in Hoeven has a 900 m² spray park and seven water slides. Maple Farm Adventures in Bosschenhoofd offers a climbing park, an outdoor playground and an adventure golf course. The activities cater to different interests, from water play to climbing and golf.
Skydive ENPC offers parachute jumps from an airfield in Bosschenhoofd. The ascent begins there, and the subsequent landing also takes place there. The activity is weather-dependent, setting it apart from the play and activity facilities described above.
Getting there and planning
Halderberge is easily accessible by car, train and bicycle. Individual connections and timetables may change, so check the connection that suits your trip before setting off. If you are travelling by bicycle, also bear in mind when planning your route that the junction network and its signposting may be updated.
