Discover Oud Gastel
Accommodation in Oud Gastel
Oud Gastel can be planned around three clearly distinct themes: architectural history, walking routes and the cherry season at ByVoorbraak Cherries. If you are interested in a hotel in Oud Gastel, these themes can help you coordinate your travel dates with the activities you have in mind. Historic buildings and a stroll through the town centre are the focus, independently of the seasonal cherry harvest.
Architectural history in Oud Gastel
The Mastboomhuis was designed in 1874 for the brewer Petrus Mastboom and Adriana Gillis. The house retains its complete furnishings from the period when three generations lived there. The year of the design dates the plans, while the preserved furnishings offer an additional perspective on how the house was lived in across generations.
Visiting hours for the Mastboomhuis are listed as Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5 pm, April through October. Group visits on other days from March through November are possible by prior arrangement. Before you travel, check whether visiting is possible on your chosen date.
The Laurentiuskerk shows two distinct building periods: the tower dates from the 15th century; the nave was rebuilt in 1906 to designs by Gerardus van Swaaij. Korte Dreef Cemetery is one of Oud Gastel’s municipal monuments. The tower is considerably older than the nave, which was rebuilt in 1906.
Walking routes
The Oud-Gastels Ommetje is a 3.3-kilometre walking route that lets you explore the town centre of Oud Gastel on foot. Its length gives you a clear idea of the distance when planning a walk into your day. As route details may change, check the current route before setting out.
Another walking route starts at the Laurentiuskerk, passes through the surrounding countryside along the Gastels Laag and continues to Oudenbosch. The two route descriptions therefore differ in focus: the Ommetje is associated with exploring the town centre; the other route leads from the church through the countryside towards Oudenbosch. When choosing, consider whether you mainly want to explore the town centre on foot or head to Oudenbosch as the destination of the route described.
Cherry season at ByVoorbraak Cherries
At ByVoorbraak Cherries, you can pick your own cherries on Sundays during the cherry season from June to August. During the season, cherries are available from the wall seven days a week from mid-June through August. The periods overlap but differ in their start dates and days of the week: to pick your own, plan for a Sunday; the wall offer is available every day of the week during its seasonal period. Check the seasonal dates before you travel.
